Summary
We seek a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive and robotic assisted cardiac procedures. This position is at a tertiary care academic medical center. The role combines clinical excellence, teaching, research and innovation to advance patient care.
Responsibilities:
Clinical Care
+ The surgeon will perform cardiac surgery using robotic assisted and minimally invasive techniques. Operations will include mitral valve repair, atrial septal defect repair, coronary revascularization. Will also perform routine open cardiac surgery procedures including coronary revascularization, aortic and mitral valve replacement, aortic dissection.
+ Will provide pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative care.
+ Collaborate with cardiology, anesthesiology, perfusion and surgical teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
+ Maintain high standards of patient safety and quality improvement.
+ Will participate in a rotating on-call schedule.
Academic and Teaching
+ The surgeon will participate in the teaching mission of the division of cardiothoracic surgery. Will teach and mentor medical students, residents and fellows in open cardiac and robotic cardiac surgery.
+ Will develop and deliver lectures and simulation and hands on training for robotic surgery.
+ Serve on academic committees and participate in curriculum development for divisional educational programs.
Research and Scholarship
+ Conduct clinical, translational or outcomes-based research including in robotic surgery.
+ Publish in peer reviewed journals and present at national/international meetings.
+ Seek funding through grants and collaborative initiatives.
Leadership and Service
+ Participate in departmental and institutional governance as able.
+ Contribute to national professional societies when applicable.
Work Environment
+ Stony Brook Medicine is a tertiary care academic medical center affiliated with Stony Brook University.
+ There will be a balance of operating room time, clinic time, teaching and research as negotiated.
+ It is a collaborative multidisciplinary community of providers.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
+ MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent)
+ Completion of an ACGME accredited Cardiothoracic Surgery residency
+ Fellowship training and/or significant experience in robotic cardiac surgery
+ Board certification or eligibility in Thoracic Surgery
+ Eligibility for NY State licensure
+ Demonstrated commitment to teaching and academic scholarship
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience with surgical robotic platform (eg da Vinci system)
+ Interest in innovation, simulation and/or surgical technology development
+ Research experience
