Shenandoah University’s Department of Special Education is accepting applications for an Adjunct Teaching Faculty, Special Education. This is a part-time Remote (online) position.
The Department of Special Education is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Adjunct Professor to teach our graduate-level course: Foundations and Medical Aspects of Special Education. This role is critical in preparing the next generation of educators to understand the historical, legal, and physiological frameworks that define special education today.
The ideal candidate will combine academic rigor with practical experience, delivering engaging instruction in a synchronous online environment during evening hours to accommodate working professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Instructional Delivery: Lead weekly evening online sessions focused on the history of special education, federal and state laws (e.g., IDEA, ADA, Section 504), and the medical complexities of various disabilities.
+ Curriculum Application: Provide a comprehensive overview of teaching and learning strategies tailored to students with diverse learning needs and disabilities.
+ Student Support: Provide timely feedback on assignments, hold virtual office hours, and mentor students on best practices in the field.
+ Compliance: Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and final grading in accordance with university policy.
Required Skills
+ Academic Credentials: A Master’s or Doctoral degree in Special Education from an accredited institution.
+ Subject Matter Expertise: Deep familiarity with the historical evolution of special education and a robust understanding of current special education law, litigation, and high yield teaching strategies.
+ Online Proficiency: Experience utilizing Learning Management Systems (LMS). SU utilizes CANVAS.
+ Availability: Must be available to teach during evening hours (typically between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM EST).
Required Experience
+ Current or previous certification in Special Education.
+ Experience teaching special education in K-12 schools.
+ Experience teaching at a college or university.
