    Minimum Qualifications:

    + Six years of professional experience in natural science or education, two of which must have been in fish and wildlife conservation field work or conservation program implementation.

    + Substitution of a bachelor’s degree from and accredited college or university and two years of experience of fish and wildlife conservation field work or conservation education program implementation, OR

    + Substitution of a masters degree from and accredited college or university and one year of experience of fish and wildlife conservation field work or conservation education program implementation.

    Requirements:

    Employment in this position is contingent upon a satisfactory criminal history check (fingerprint-based) in accordance with Chapter 435, Florida Statutes.

     

    Possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License. Occasional statewide travel for meetings and events required (1-25%).

     

    May require work time outside of regularly scheduled hours, over 40 hours per week, including evenings and weekends. Working over 40 hours requires advance approval from supervisor.

     

    During the months of June and July candidates will be transferred to Flat rate pay ($920.00 a week for 8 weeks) candidates will be a requirement to stay onsite while staff training occurs and if campers are on site. Upon Selection candidate shall complete boater safety course, hunter safety course, lifeguard, American Canoe Association certification, basic first aid and CPR.

     

    Work may be cross-functional meaning duties may cross division/office lines. This position may function across FWC’s organizational structure by providing their skills and expertise wherever needed through work on teams or as directed.

     

    Position Overview and Responsibilities: Assist with the design and implementation of OCC site-specific conservation education programs, displays, and resources relevant to FWC’s Florida Youth Conservation Centers Network’s (FYCCN) Four Pillars: Safe Boating, Wildlife Exploration, Shooting Sports, and Ethical Angling.

     

    Design, conduct, and supervise others in educational programming, including but not limited to summer camp operations, hunter safety and shooting sports events, fishing clinics, field trips, partner events, outreach, and public visitor engagement.

     

    Assist OCC Director in staff training, supervision, skills development, and delivery of feedback.

     

    Assist with integration of FWC educational curriculum, family activities, and conservation programs into OCC offerings.

     

    Conduct workshops and provide trainings for FYCCN partners and volunteers; including but not limited to summer camp operations, hunter safety and shooting sports, Project Wild, and kayak skills workshops.

     

    Assist with outreach and recruitment strategies for summer camp.

     

    Promote OCC facility and programs to the public, specialty groups, and partners to gain support.

     

    Ensure camps and educational field experiences comply and operate according to American Camp Association (ACA) standards.

     

    Enforce camp code of conduct for campers and staff.

     

    Have knowledge of current ACA guidelines and remain up to date on additions or alterations to standards. Train staff on ACA-related policies and procedures.

     

    Assist with annual submission of written documentation and ACA re-accreditation visit preparations.

     

    Complete all required training related to ACA standards, risk management, and child protection policies.

     

    Answers to qualifying questions must be validated in the application, resume and cover letter.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Knowledge of FYCCN’s Four Pillars: Shooting Sports, Ethical Angling, Safe Boating, and Wildlife Exploration.

     

    Knowledge of hunter safety and safe gun handling; including archery, rifle marksmanship, and shotgun shooting.

     

    Knowledge of regional ecosystems and wildlife management practices.

     

    Knowledge of fishing, fishing equipment and boating.

     

    Experience in operational planning, delegation and collaborative team building and public speaking.

     

    Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

     

    Ability to be a team-player and work collaboratively with various stakeholders, partners, and government agencies.

     

    Ability to use abstract reasoning, problem solving, planning, and analytical skills in training, evaluation, and program development.

     

    Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments for self and when working with others.

     

    Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.

     

    Ability to work professionally and sensitively with a diverse audience and a wide range of contacts at different levels.

     

    Ability to move items up to 35[ lbs.

     

    Ability to travel, enter and exit a vehicle, and/or vessel, and withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions.
