About this Job
This is a part-time position located at theState Museum in New Orleans, LA.
This position is responsible for acting as the initial point of contact for all visitors and groups of the Louisiana State Museums.
The Louisiana State Museum’s collections and educational programs stimulate awareness and appreciation of our state’s rich and diverse history and culture.
Minimum Qualifications
One year of experience in tourism information, public relations, customer service, or teaching.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Professional work responsibilities include courteous greeting, wayfinding, and acting as initial point of contact for all visitors and groups of the Louisiana State Museums. Maintains knowledge of all LSM programs and exhibitions. Always keeps a positive attitude when assisting guests to the museum.
+ Uses computer-based Point of Sale ticketing system and group reservations database.
+ Receives checks, cash, credit cards, and other forms of payments for museum admission.
+ Knowledgeable of and able to explain museum discounts and various group tours.
+ Provides information to LSM guests regarding the LSM properties both in the New Orleans area and various regional attractions.
+ Verifies total sales and balances the cash drawer at the end of the business day.
+ Documents any overages for shortages that may occur.
+ Assists in the training of any new Tourism Information Counselor staff.
+ Provides information on localities, parks, local events, other local area museums, and other area local attractions.
+ Distributes brochures, maps, and other LSM printed materials.
+ Answers visitor questions pertaining to the state, history, and culture.
+ Keeps up to date on all museum exhibitions by frequently walking through the museum venues.
+ Reports any outages of lighting, exhibit monitors, trash, etc. in the areas of the museum that need to be cleaned to the Administrative Program Director 1.
+ Refers museum guests interested in additional LSM information to the appropriate staff member.
+ Maintains a working knowledge of the operation of various office equipment such as the copy machine, calculators, credit card machines, and all other equipment as needed to successful complete job duties.
+ Performs all other duties as required.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type:This position will be filled as a part-time Classified WAE, limited to 1,245 working hours in a 12-month period. **Starting Hourly Pay varies, depending on experience.**
Work Schedule: This position will report in-office on a revolving schedule. The incumbent must be available 7 days a week. This position may be required to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
