Proposed Schedule: Monday-Friday. Shifts will vary between 8am-5pm
Please note: This position will have a home location of Plattsburgh Family Health but will be required to travel to other Northern Health Centers as needed.
Position Summary
The Clinical Nurse Educator is directly responsible for providing high quality education and training to nursing staff while embracing the Core Values of Quality, Appreciation, Creativity and Sustainability in pursuing the HHHN Mission and Vision. The Clinical Nurse Educator is devoted to teaching nurses who work in healthcare centers with the skills and knowledge needed to provide the best quality care and patient experience as possible.
The Clinical Nurse Educator will work closely with the Regional Practice Leaders, Practice Leaders, Nurse Leaders and the Vice President of Nursing to ensure we are meeting the evolving education and training needs for new hires and existing staff. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Assess learner characteristics including learning styles and learning needs for program development
+ Creates an effective learning environment; functions in the roles of both teacher and facilitator
+ Plans, prepares and delivers staff education and training; ensures proper equipment, processes, and workflows are in order; promotes problem solving
+ Implements a variety of teaching strategies tailored to the learner's characteristics learning needs, cultural perspectives, and outcome objectives
+ Plans nursing professional development programs that are culturally relevant and incorporate concepts of multicultural and multigenerational education
+ Applies nursing and learning theoretical and conceptual foundations as a basis for developing nursing professional development programs
+ Demonstrate advanced knowledge of quality metrics and internal tracking resources
+ Create learning materials that are tailored to different levels of staff, including forms for documenting participation in learning events, simulation, and competency validation
+ Plan and manage the nursing orientation program to prepare new nursing staff for orientation in their new setting with a basic understanding of the required and essential job duties
+ Maintain up to date orientation tools including checklists, job aids, simulation activities and presentations, and materials
+ Develop nursing practice resources in collaboration with the nursing leadership team i.e. HWeb, Lippincott, HealthStream etc
+ Monitor the progress of each new hire by attending at least one touch base meeting and provide support to the Nurse Leader and/or the preceptor
+ Provide initial preceptor development education and ongoing training
+ Demonstrate a high level of proficiency using the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system; apply knowledge to educate staff about the EMR, and provide education when changes occur
+ Anticipate impact to nursing when updates, new releases, or betas are rolled out
+ Support the vaccine storage and handling program by providing education, observing individual and health centers practices, and assisting in emergency vaccine transfer and storage if needed
+ Support point of care testing practices by observing practices in the center, preparing and delivering annual education to nursing staff, and providing ongoing education
+ Evaluate training needs when introducing new equipment and prepare and execute training plans with a vendor or independently to successfully integrate new equipment
+ Develop nursing champions/superusers for nursing competencies to support the Nurse Leader
+ Provide periodic updates to specialty staff within nursing i.e. Telephone Triage Nurses, Team Based Care Nursing Staff, IRIS Users
+ Evaluate health centers while rounding, identify best practices to share, and identify opportunities for improvement in the environment of care, workflows, policies, or procedures
+ Actively participate in Nursing Leadership meetings and engage with the team
+ Attend training and development programs; continuously develop strong and current education and training programs as technology evolves
+ Provide BLS (and ACLS if needed) training in rotation with other Network trainers
+ Maintains visible clinical presence; adheres to regulatory body governance
+ Serve on HHHN committees that support the Mission, Vision and Core Values; participate with enthusiasm and engagement
+ Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned
Qualifications:
+ Unrestricted current RN license to practice nursing in New York State
+ BS degree or higher, Master’s degree preferred in nursing or related program
+ Minimum of 5 years Registered Nurse clinical experience; Network experience is preferred
+ Excellent training and development skills
+ Experience developing curriculum and corresponding materials
+ Current BLS certification
+ Proficient in the use of technology training methods and learning management systems
+ Proficiency with Microsoft applications and electronic medical records; Athena is a plus
+ Self-directed, detail-oriented, motivated and ability to work independently as well as in a team atmosphere
+ Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
The pay rate for this position is $88,580.34/annually.
