Our casual nurses must meet certain hours requirements. There are two casual titles that follow different program guidelines.

1. Professional Staff Nurse Limited Casual: 30 shifts required each calendar year

2. Professional Staff Nurse Casual: A minimum of 36 hours in three pay periods, one holiday per year, and a minimum of 24 hours Off-Shifts or Weekend or Standby shifts in a quarter

The casual Professional Staff Nurse is a valued step in the UPMC casual nursing career ladder, with opportunities for continued growth and advancement. Title and salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience.

The qualified candidate will be placed into the appropriate job title (Professional Staff Nurse _Limited_ Casual or Professional Staff Nurse Casual) and salary based on relevant experience, education, and hours requirements.

About the Unit - 12 South (12S)

+ 30-bed acuity adaptable unit with diverse patient care: Step-Down & Post-Surgical | Endocrinology | ️ Pulmonary | Infectious Diseases

+ Teaching-Focused - Ideal for new grads & expanding inpatient experience

+ Flexible Scheduling - Rotating shifts, including weekends & holidays

Your Role

• Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care and foster diversity, inclusion, and a safe workplace for all team members

+ Education: BSN preferred; UPMC student internship or clinical transitions course preferred.

+ Skills: 1+ years of nursing experience. Critical thinking, problem-solving, clinical judgment, multitasking, and use of specialized equipment.

+ Interpersonal: Build positive relationships with staff, patients, and families.

+ Physical: Mobility, dexterity, and stamina for patient care tasks.

+ Licensure & Certifications:

+ RN license or Temporary Practice Permit (temporary permits are valid for one year from the date of graduation, not one year from issue of permit (or until the results of the examination are known at which time it becomes null and void)

+ BLS/CPR (AHA standard) within 30 days

+ ACLS certification

+ Act 34 Criminal Clearance

+ Licensure exam within 4 months of hire or they will be terminated or demoted from the GN position, at the discretion of the BU
