Responsibilities
+ Provide direct patient care under RN supervision, including assistance with ADLs, patient transport, and procedures.
+ Obtain and document vital signs, blood glucose, weights, intake/output, telemetry application, specimen collection, and point-of-care testing.
+ Perform core Patient Care Technician duties and selected advanced skills as needed (e.g., phlebotomy, EKGs, Foley or IV removal, bladder scans).
+ Assist with therapies, apply/remove restraints per protocol, and report changes in patient condition to the RN.
+ Document care accurately in the medical record and complete clerical tasks as assigned.
+ Communicate effectively with the healthcare team and other departments.
+ Support unit operations, quality initiatives, and patient safety standards.
+ Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
+ High school diploma or GED required.
+ One of the following required:
+ 1 year of general healthcare experience, or
+ 6 months as a UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days for candidates with less than 1 year of experience, or
+ Enrollment in a PT, OT, PA, EMT, or related healthcare program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, or
+ Bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.
+ Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician class and eRecord training.
+ EMT or Paramedic certification or enrollment preferred.
Licensure & Certifications
+ BLS/CPR certification (AHA-compliant with didactic and skills demonstration) required within 30 days of hire.
+ ACLS preferred.
