Gas Distribution Apprentice

Perform any of the duties in, Construction, Service, and/or Pressure Regulation. The Employee must be able to operate company vehicles, respond to, and maintain the Company Gas Distribution system. Employee will be expected to successfully complete a four-year gas apprenticeship program. Employees will also be required to be available for emergency work on overtime.

Summary

The duties of the position include, but are not limited to the ability to learn and demonstrate knowledge of : installing, maintaining, and performing required inspections on all gas meters, regulators, mains, services, and odorization equipment for residential, commercial, and industrial customers; operate mechanical trenching/excavating equipment and related tools necessary to install gas mains and services respond to routine and emergency orders evaluate operational characteristics of gas-fired appliances and associated equipment, ie. fuel line flex connectors, vents; PE fusion; operational surveys; locating; meter reading; valve maintenance; and material handling. Job involves physical climbing, digging, working with specialized tools and equipment as well as working on leaking gas services.

Minimum Requirements

+ High school diploma or GED

+ Plumbing, HVAC, or other Construction skills preferred

+ Must have a valid unencumbered Colorado Driver’s License or ability to acquire within 30 days.

+ Must have, or obtain within six months of start date, a valid CDL and pass a DOT physical

+ Physical abilities necessary for lifting, climbing, digging, working in tight areas, and working with specialized equipment and tools

+ Must be able to lift 70 lbs. alone and more than 70 lbs. with assistance

+ Applicant is required to successfully pass the Xcel Energy drug and background screening requirements.

+ Must pass future exams that are required by federal regulations for pipeline safety as required by federal agencies **.**

+ Must pass a Gas Respirator Qualification

+ Must live within 40 miles and 40 minutes of the chosen service center and not east of Eisenhower Tunnel.

Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $39.79 per hour
