Job Purpose

To provide research and engineering support for all Ring Container Technologies strategic product development pipeline projects. This is a hands-on, team-player position and the ability to provide servant leadership from corporate is critical to the success of the Product Development and Technology Department.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

This position is self-directed and is responsible for organizing all development activities related to strategic pipeline projects. Responsible for bringing the concepts of new package technologies to commercialization. Communication of all project and activities is a critical responsibility.

+ Responsible to work with Product Development Engineers, Process Engineers, Sales and Operations to develop concepts that support new packaging innovation.

+ Execute, communicate and manage work assignments utilizing project management tools.

+ Be an integral part of the Product Development and Technology team to reach the goal of becoming the Best in Industry at developing new custom rigid plastic packaging technologies.

+ Maintain current knowledge of industry developments related all blow molding processes, materials and packaging technologies.

+ Interact with vendors to verify molds, materials and equipment, through inspection, to engineering specifications meet needs of new packaging innovation.

+ Assist plants with new packaging innovation for best in class execution and startup of new technologies.

+ Development of new testing protocols and assist in laboratory testing as needed.

+ Perform special projects as assigned.

+ Provide leadership to the company and personnel to drive new technologies innovation initiatives through reporting procedures and record keeping requirements to ensure compliance, follow-ups and improvements.

+ Drive innovation by understanding weaknesses in current processes or behaviors related to process, tooling, or materials.

+ Perpetual searching for improvements to key products currently in company portfolio by using your technical knowledge and creative ideas.

Experience and Educational Qualifications

The Research and Development Specialist Engineer will have experience plastic materials, R&D methodology, and packaging technologies. The candidate must have technical knowledge of plastics blow molding processes. He/She should possess excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. He/she must possess proficient computer skills. College degree in Engineering or Material Science preferred.

+ Plastics part design and manufacturing.

+ Working knowledge of statistics preferred.

+ Understanding of 3D and 2D CAD modeling (Solidworks, Catia, AutoCAD)

+ Finite Element Analysis ideal (blow molding, nonlinear structural analysis)

+ Knowledge of blow molding processing (ISBM, RSBM, Extrusion)

+ Knowledge Injection molding processing

+ Analytical capabilities (Stat-Ease, DOE, Statics, 6 Sigma)

+ Strong report writing and presentation ability

+ General business software knowledge (Excel, WORD, PowerPoint)

+ Project scheduling (MS Project).

+ Knowledge of US patent system and development of intellectual property.
