MANAGER, STRATEGIC CONNECTIVITY PROJECTS (STARLINK)
Starlink, our revolutionary satellite constellation, is delivering low-latency broadband internet around the world. In addition to the current use cases Starlink is serving in masse – such as residential, maritime, aviation, fixed site enterprise – there are many other uses cases and applications for Starlink that help social and economic development that require development or modification of existing capabilities and thinking. Examples include serving anchor institutions (schools, clinics, libraries, community centers, etc.), refugee camps, securing development bank funding, and supporting unique philanthropic efforts.
The Strategic Connectivity Projects team is charged with identifying and enabling these projects by assessing the potential positive impact of projects, thinking creatively, applying excellent business judgement, and having a bias for action.
We are searching for a manager of this team to apply additional focus to these projects, to increase the pace of progress and scale the impact by orders of magnitude. Our ideal candidate is a self-starter that has a passion for expanding connectivity access, building excellent teams, sharing the stories of how Starlink can positively impact social and economic development, and managing complex cross-functional projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Scale the use of Starlink in projects that have significant positive social and economic impact around the world
+ Develop and execute strategies that align with Starlink business goals as well as team-specific goals
+ Manage and grow individual team members and capabilities to enable embracing projects of all sizes
+ Select, establish, and maintain key relationships that align with the strategy and mission, such as influential individuals, philanthropic entities, non-governmental organizations, and development banks
+ Measure and report progress towards goals, establishing new tracking methods if required
+ Maintain a strong grasp of standard Starlink product offerings and business processes
+ Apply excellent business judgement on if, when, and how to deviate
+ Ensure Starlink products, processes and capabilities develop with social and economic development project use cases in mind by identifying and justifying necessary changes or deviations
+ Identify and work collaboratively with key internal partners such as market access, global operations, growth, sales, legal, finance, account management, and communications
+ Work with communications team to collect and share compelling messaging and stories about Starlink’s positive impact around the world
+ Act as a key advisor to Sr. Director, Market Access and Development on global expansion, personally working special projects as assigned
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business fields
+ 7+ years of experience in engineering or operations
+ 1+ years of direct people management experience
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
+ Ability to champion and lead significant cross-functional projects and business initiatives, including ability to manage in an environment with competing priorities and limited resources
+ Exceptional external interface and public speaking skills, including excellent written and verbal communication skills
+ Successful internal communicator within SpaceX that possesses the ability to tailor communications appropriately to level (working-level to executive-level)
+ Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills
+ Strong ability to determine what projects to pursue that have positive social and economic development potential as well as are smart business decisions
+ Ability to navigate risk and ambiguity successfully
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
+ Must be available to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed to support critical milestones or operations shifts
+ Must be willing to travel to other SpaceX offices and customer locations as needed (estimated need is 25% on average through the year, but there may be surges/concentrated periods)
