    The Research Associate (Part-Time) will support a study titled Which Studies Shape the Narrative? Analyzing How Education Research Reaches Policy Discourse. The study examines which characteristics of peer-reviewed education research predict dissemination and visibility in policy-facing and media contexts. The project is led by Drs. Erin O'Connor and Robin Neuhaus.

     

    The position is part-time (8-9 hours weekly), fully remote, and paid hourly. The Research Associate will contribute to core project activities including structured coding of academic articles, data management, and documentation following a detailed codebook and established research protocols. The role requires careful attention to detail, consistency in judgment, and comfort working independently in a remote research environment.

     

    The position will begin in January 2026 and run through December 2026.

    Position Responsibilities:

    + Code peer-reviewed education research articles using a standardized coding manual

    + Extract and record study characteristics including methodology, sample features, topic areas, and equity-related indictators

    + Enter and manage data in shared spreadsheets and databases with high accuracy

    + Review academic articles (PDFs) and summarize relevant study features for coding purposes

    + Participate in initial training and periodic reliability or calibration exercises

    + Maintain clear documentation of coding decision and flag unclear cases for review

    + Communicate regularly with project staff via email and virtual meetings as needed

     

    In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly pay range for this position is $18/hour. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

     

    Per NYU's remote-work policy, this position may be fully remote.

     

    This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

     

    + Current undergraduate student (any major; education, social sciences, or related fields preferred)

    + Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured research protocols

    + Comfort reading and interpreting academic research articles

    + Strong organizational skills and reliability in meeting deadlines

    + Experience with spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets) required

    + Ability to work independently in a fully remote setting

    + Prior research assistant experience is a plus but not required
