    Job Summary

    Data Architects

     

    Work with a talented team of developers, researchers and clinicians in the University of Utah Division of Epidemiology to conduct large-scale research projects in the domain of infectious diseases. The successful candidate will work collaboratively to develop analysis plans and technical specifications, maintain study documentation, create study cohorts and analytic files from relational databases, extract information from clinical text using natural language processing ( NLP ), and conduct basic and advanced statistical analyses within the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Corporate Data Warehouse ( CDW ) and the University of Utah Center for High Performance Computing ( CHPC ) environments. Previous experience VA CDW , University Electronic Data Warehouse ( EDW ), or other large electronic health record or administrative healthcare data sets strongly preferred.

     

    Must be proficient in data analysis and management familiar with Microsoft Business Intelligence stack. Experience with TSQL , SSIS , SSRS , SSAS and Power BI strongly preferred. Proficiency in either Python or R required. Expert use of natural language processing libraries (spaCy, medspaCy, huggingface, etc.) and/or machine learning frameworks (scikit-learn, Pytorch, etc.) a plus.

    Design, deploy, and manage the organization’s data architecture. Collaborate with technology and management teams to understand structural requirements and define standards for how data will be stored, consumed, integrated, and managed across the organization and translate into a usable blueprint. Build an inventory of data needed to implement architecture and create a vision for how data will flow through the organization. Design and build complex data models, approve modifications, and implement systems. Implement measures to ensure data accuracy and accessibility, constantly monitoring and refining the performance of data management systems. Produce and enforce database development standards. Possess strong understanding of data modeling tools and standards, ETL tools, and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Pig, NoSQL).
