The Stanford Shared FACS Facility is seeking a **Life Science Research Professional 2** to join our highly collaborative service center team. As one of the most heavily utilized flow cytometry facilities on campus, we provide consistent, high-quality, state-of-the-art cytometry and cell sorting services to researchers across Stanford University and to external academic and industry partners in the region.
This role is ideal for an energetic, service-oriented scientist who enjoys working with a diverse community of researchers and contributing directly to a wide range of cutting-edge research projects. As a Flow Cytometry Specialist, you will apply your expertise to support, train, and collaborate with researchers on flow cytometry and cell sorting experiments. You will assist with experimental design, troubleshooting, multicolor analysis, and advanced sorting applications, while continually expanding your technical skills through exposure to novel research and emerging technologies. Strong communication skills, adaptability, and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential.

Key Responsibilities:
+ Independently operate flow cytometry analyzers and cell sorters in a shared service center environment.
+ Perform routine instrument startup, quality control, and maintenance.
+ Provide training and support to users, including self-operators, on flow cytometry analyzer and sorter instrumentation and software.
+ Assist researchers with experimental design, optimization, data acquisition, and data interpretation.
+ Troubleshoot technical and experimental issues and support implementation of instrument and software updates.
+ Serve as a resource for biological applications, cell handling techniques, and reagent selection.
+ Perform non-routine instrument maintenance and coordinate with manufacturer service as needed.
+ Maintain laboratory operations, including inventory management, chemical and safety records, and general lab support.
+ Work a flexible schedule and operate in a BSL-2 laboratory environment to meet facility needs. _*- Other duties may be assigned._
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ The requisite combination of education and/or experience in the field to work independently, and to serve as a resource for users; to train new users, and help self-operators solve problems with their instrument operations.
+ A highly qualified candidate will have 2 or more years experience with one or more of the following instrumentation systems: BD FACSAria/Fusion/S8, BD Symphony, Cytek Aurora, Agilent Novocyte OR one year experience operating a flow cytometer and additional 2 years of experience in a related field or in education.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
Bachelor's degree in related scientific field and two years of relevant work experience; or Master’s degree in a related scientific field.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
+ Comprehensive understanding of scientific principles.
+ General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications.
+ Strong analytical skills and excellent judgment.
+ Ability to maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
+ Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance is essential.
+ Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
+ Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds.
+ Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts.
+ Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls.
+ Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.
+ Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.
+ Ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
+ Ability to work in a dusty, dirty, and odorous environment.
+ Position may require repetitive motion.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
+ May require working in close proximity to blood borne pathogens.

+ Employee must perform tasks that require the use of personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses and shoes, protective clothing and gloves, and possibly a respirator.

_The expected pay range for this position is $_ 85,376 _to $_ 99,581 _per annum._
