General Summary
Under the direction of a Manager, Director, or senior leader, the Lead Business Intelligence Developer designs, develops, and implements comprehensive analytics solutions to extract, collect, analyze, and report data in a clear, actionable, and user-friendly manner. This role performs complex statistical analysis and develops innovative approaches to measurement, analytics, and information presentation.
The Lead Business Intelligence Developer supports a broad customer base that includes physicians, physician groups and leaders, hospital and system leadership, the Board of Trustees, transformation consulting, clinical and non-clinical services, markets, community stakeholders, service lines, revenue cycle, finance, enterprise users, and external oversight or regulatory bodies.
This position generates standard and ad-hoc reports and supports comparative database assessment and maintenance related to performance, clinical, operational, and improvement initiatives. As a fully independent member of Core Analytics, the Lead Developer plays a pivotal role in advancing the data-driven culture at Henry Ford Health System and serves as a trusted advisor by providing accurate, insightful, and actionable interpretation of data.
The Lead Business Intelligence Developer mentors other developers to promote knowledge sharing, skill development, and continuity of analytics support. This role thrives in complex, ambiguous environments, consistently meeting high-pressure deadlines while maintaining quality, timeliness, and accuracy. The Lead Developer demonstrates strong leadership, adaptability, and a solution-oriented mindset while effectively engaging with evolving customer needs.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
+ Develop and implement end-to-end analytics solutions, including data extraction (using programming languages), analysis, and reporting.
+ Conduct complex statistical analyses and develop new methodologies for measurement and data presentation.
+ Design and deliver comprehensive reporting solutions, dashboards, and ad-hoc analyses to support strategic, clinical, and operational goals.
+ Translate complex data into meaningful insights for diverse audiences, including executives, physicians, clinical staff, peers, and external regulatory bodies.
+ Support comparative database development, assessment, and ongoing maintenance.
+ Serve as a trusted advisor to leaders by providing clear interpretation, insights, and recommendations.
+ Mentor and guide other developers to ensure knowledge transfer and backup support.
+ Work independently with minimal direction while managing deadlines, ambiguity, and competing priorities.
+ Maintain high standards for data quality, documentation, and delivery.
+ Proactively engage customers and quickly adapt solutions as requirements evolve.
+ Consistently demonstrate strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.

Education & Experience Required
+ Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics/Statistics, Business, or Applied Science.
+ Six to seven (6–7) years of professional experience in a healthcare and/or business environment.
Technical & Analytical Qualifications
+ Expert proficiency in SQL, advanced Microsoft Excel, report development, analytics tool development, requirements gathering, and technical documentation.
+ Experience developing relational databases, data models, data visualizations, curated datasets, and data cubesorexperience in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) reporting and system functionality.
+ Experience with widely used EMR systems such as Epic, Cerner, McKesson, or similar platforms.
+ Expert knowledge of enterprise databases and/or EMR systems.
+ Developer-level experience in at least one programming language and/or EMR reporting platform.
+ Experience using source control management (SCM) systems, including branching, merging, pushing, pulling, staging, and code documentation (e.g., Git-based systems or Microsoft TFS).
+ Strong understanding of data architecture concepts, including dimensional, normalized, denormalized, unstructured, hierarchical, and object-oriented data models and data warehousing principles.
+ Ability to develop and maintain data models to support analytics and reporting.
+ Experience developing multidimensional semantic layers and analytics query objects for end users.
+ Basic understanding of statistical and machine learning concepts.
+ Working knowledge of statistical analysis techniques, including sampling, confidence intervals, distributions, control charts, and related methodologies.
+ Experience with Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau, Cognos, Looker, Power BI, Qlik, SSRS, Toad, Minitab, or comparable platforms.
Communication & Customer Engagement
+ Proven customer service experience with strong active listening and relationship-building skills.
+ Ability to effectively and persuasively present complex analytical information to diverse audiences.
+ Expert written and verbal communication skills.
