  • Director, Technology Operations - Global Seller…

    Walmart (Bentonville, AR)

    Apply Now

    Position Summary...

Walmart Marketplace is one of the fastest-growing e-commerce platforms in the U.S. As we scale, protecting our customers, sellers, and brand through robust, holistic risk management is essential. Our Seller Risk organization prevents bad actors from entering the ecosystem and monitors seller behavior throughout the lifecycle to maintain a safe, high-quality Marketplace.

We are hiring a seasoned risk leader to build and run global seller risk monitoring and underwriting programs that manage financial exposure, detect fraud, and strengthen trust across the seller lifecycle. This role sits in the first line of defense (1LOD) and partners closely with second line oversight, Compliance, Legal, Product, Engineering, Data Science, and Operations.

    What you'll do...

The Director, Global Seller Risk Monitoring will develop and execute strategies to evaluate and manage complex risk for new and existing Marketplace sellers, with a focus on credit risk and fraud risk that can drive financial exposure. This leader will build scalable onboarding and ongoing monitoring frameworks across seller segments, incorporate macroeconomic and portfolio trends into decisioning, and establish clear risk appetite and governance in partnership with risk oversight and compliance stakeholders. The successful candidate is an experienced marketplace/acquirer risk leader who can combine underwriting judgment, analytics, and operational execution. You will lead a global team of risk professionals and partner with Data Science and Engineering to deliver automated solutions (rules, models, tooling, and dashboards) that enable accurate, consistent decisions at Walmart scale. **Key Responsibilities**

+ Lead global seller underwriting and monitoring strategies across onboarding, identity/business verification (KYC/KYB), lifecycle reviews, enforcement, and risk remediation.

+ Directly manage and develop a global team of seller risk professionals supporting onboarding decisions, ongoing reviews, escalations, and portfolio monitoring.

+ Partner with second line risk oversight and Compliance teams to define risk appetite statements, governance processes, and performance health metrics; apply these guidelines to seller opportunities and interventions.

+ Build monitoring frameworks that identify early warning signals and emerging portfolio risks, including macroeconomic and category/vertical drivers of financial exposure.

+ Provide tailored guidance for complex or high-risk seller onboarding opportunities (e.g., large sellers, new business models, high-risk categories), including executive briefings and seller/partner discussions when appropriate.

+ Partner with Data Science, Analytics, and Engineering to design and deploy scalable decision systems (models, rules, scorecards, dashboards, alerting, and case management tooling) to improve accuracy, speed, and consistency.

+ Identify control opportunities for new verticals, market expansions, and product launches; ensure controls are measurable and operationally executable.

+ Serve as the Marketplace seller risk lead with external partners, including verification vendors, payment providers/processors, acquiring bank partners, and card networks.

+ Drive continuous improvement through post-mortems, experimentation, and measurement (approval rates, loss/fraud outcomes, false positive/negative rates, operational throughput, and seller experience).

+ Ensure risk programs align with evolving global regulatory, compliance, and policy requirements in partnership with Legal and Compliance.

    Minimum Qualifications

+ 10-15 years of experience in credit risk, fraud risk, underwriting, marketplace risk, or payments risk management, including experience in a large-scale marketplace, acquiring bank, payment processor, or card network ecosystem.

+ Demonstrated first line of defense (1LOD) ownership of risk decisions and controls (onboarding, monitoring, enforcement), with strong partnership to second line oversight.

+ 5+ years of people leadership experience, including managing teams of 10+ risk professionals and building high-performing, metrics-driven operating cadences.

+ Deep expertise in merchant/seller underwriting and financial exposure management, including dispute/chargeback dynamics, loss prevention, and portfolio monitoring.

+ Strong analytical fluency and ability to translate data into risk decisions; experience with dashboards/BI and working knowledge of SQL and experimentation/measurement.

+ Proven ability to influence and drive alignment across Product, Engineering, Data Science, Operations, Compliance, and senior leadership in a fast-paced environment.

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience delivering concise executive presentations and recommendations.

+ Experience navigating evolving regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g., KYC/KYB, sanctions screening, payments rules) across jurisdictions.

    Preferred Qualifications

+ Experience building automated underwriting and monitoring systems at scale (decision engines, scorecards, model cutoffs, rule management, case management).

+ Experience with ML-driven fraud and credit risk models, feature engineering, and model governance in partnership with data science teams.

+ Experience with global expansion risk frameworks and operating models, including localization of controls and playbooks.

+ Experience partnering with external stakeholders such as acquiring banks, networks, identity/KYB providers, and industry consortiums.

+ Familiarity with marketplace trust and safety risks (e.g., counterfeit, prohibited/restricted goods, misrepresentation) and how these risks intersect with payments and financial exposure.
