Overview
The Registered Nurse (RN) will function within his/her scope of practice in collaboration with the ER team and under the direction of Physicians.

Responsibilities
+ Delegates nursing care activities and monitors care given by appropriate care team members in accordance with patient needs, and the team member’s professional capabilities and qualifications.
+ Assists in creating a positive work environment by mentoring of staff/ students, and working with team members to develop and facilitate initiatives to strive for positive outcomes in quality and care of patients.
+ Complies with all policies and procedures, and guides team members with compliance.
+ Reliable attendance is an expectation of the team member role, as well as a leader in the unit.
+ Assumes responsibility for continued growth in areas of competencies, lifelong learning and must participate on unit and hospital quality of care projects and /or Committees. Specialty certifications and continuing education are strongly encouraged .
+ Supports use of Evidenced Based Practice and incorporates best practices into daily care routine.
+ Participates in mandatory education and unit meetings per established guidelines.
+ Compiles with all safety goals, infection prevention and risk management policies and procedures.
+ Completes annual mandatory education.
Qualifications
Education:
+ Successfully completed an accredited nursing program required.
+ All newly licensed RNs with less than six (6) months of acute RN experience at the time of application are required to successfully complete the Nurse Residency program
+ BSN Preferred
Experience:
+ Prefer one (1) year of Emergency Department clinical experience or demonstrated clinical efficiency.
License(s)/Certification(s):
+ Valid Nursing License with authorization to work in Iowa required
+ Basic Certified Life Support certification required
+ Must possess Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or obtain within 6 months of hire.
+ Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification within 6 months from date of hire required
+ Trauma Nurse Core Course required within one year of hire.
+ Must obtain NIHSS education within 90 days of hire and maintain every two years thereafter.
+ Completion of six hours of stroke education prior to the end of orientation and annually required.
+ MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behaviors) certified within the first 6 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment (renewal every year) required.
