Our services include a state-of-the-art psychiatric urgent care center and a soon-to-be-built pediatric behavioral health center, outpatient, inpatient, partial hospitalization (day programs), assessment and testing, residential, addiction treatment and specialty services such as crisis response, employee assistance programs, forensic psychiatry and psychology, and neuromodulation. On-the-job educational programs for nurses, psychologists, advanced practice providers, psychiatrists, and chaplains are equipping the next generation of care providers.

Master’s Level Internship Program Overview: 2026 - 2027 Academic Year
Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services offers a one-year Master’s Level Internship Program for students in Counseling, Psychology, and Social Work. This program is designed to support emerging clinicians as they transition from academic training into professional practice through structured, supervised clinical experiences across the behavioral health continuum.
Program Structure
The internship follows a developmental learning model that allows interns to progress at an individualized pace through four stages:
+ Stage 1: Organizational and departmental onboarding
+ Stage 2: Supervisor-led sessions with intern observation
+ Stage 3: Intern-led sessions with supervisor observation
+ Stage 4: Increased independence with ongoing supervisory oversight
Clinical Placement Opportunities
Interns may be placed in a variety of clinical settings based on program availability, educational requirements, and career interests, including: Inpatient and Outpatient Services, Partial Hospitalization Programs, Residential Care, Child & Adolescent Services, Psychological Assessment & Testing, School-Based Counseling (K–12), Substance Use Disorder Treatment, and Urgent Care and Crisis Services

Interns are integrated into interdisciplinary teams and supported through a structured training environment that includes scheduled didactic learning and exposure to Pine Rest leadership and clinical professionals. The program emphasizes professional development, ethical practice, and preparation for post-graduate clinical roles.

Intern - SUD Case Manager 2
What Will you Do?
As an Intern at Pine Rest, you’ll be part of tight-knit team that believes in the healing power of your expertise and compassion. The Intern - Case Manager Level 2 assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of clients alongside the Internship Supervisor and directs care to these clients via the development of the treatment approach including specific discipline interventions . They will ensure that appropriate level of care is determined . The Intern - Case Manager Level 2 must demonstrate excellent customer service and have enthusiasm about the program and the Pine Rest organization.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Assesses and prioritizes client treatment needs including discharge needs.
+ Implements plan of care and collaborates with the clinical team to assure a uniform plan of care.
+ Provides individual, group, and family therapy or interventions; psychosocial assessment, including assessment of co-occurring disorders
+ Provides input to the interdisciplinary treatment plan, functioning as a team member.
+ Establishes therapeutic relationship with assigned clients including engaging, deescalating, screening, and managing crises .
+ Serves as a liaison between community resources, family, client, and clinic -based providers of care.
+ Responsible to monitor for and report to the manager, attending physician, or appropriate team lea der any potential risk to clien t safety that could lead to an adverse outcome.
+ Responsible to document and report all necessary information according to established policies and procedures.
+ Utilizes processes to conserve financial resources.
+ Creates a customer/client friendly environment by following quality improvement standards, maintaining professionalism, initiating and maintaining positive relationships with departments, co-workers and external customers.
+ Works in various clinical settings with diverse client populations with complex needs.
+ Must maintain annual training and/or licensing and demonstrate competency in the required programmatic training.
What Does the Role Require?
Education/Experience:
+ Be enrolled in a M aster’s degree program in counseling, psychology, or social work.
