    The Senior Manager, Gene Reading Product Development will lead a team of R&D laboratory scientists and collaborate with other R&D and business unit teams to execute on innovation and product development. This role provides both technical and strategic leadership in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) product development aligned with IDT’s strategy.

     

    This position reports to the Senior Director of Product Development and is part of the Gene Reading R&D team located in Sunnyvale, CA and will be an on-site role.

    In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

    + Manage and direct staff, including hiring, talent development and in collaboration with direct reports, set annual performance objectives and development goals.

    + Provide technical leadership on research projects from product concept through commercialization and manage R&D project milestones and timelines.

    + Collaborate on product development with other R&D teams (Bioinformatics, Enzyme Development, Verification and Validation) and cross-functional teams including the Business Unit, Operations, Marketing, Quality, Legal and others.

    + Collaborate with the Business Unit to engage with customers to identify unmet needs, and manage project intake and priority to support IDT’s innovation funnel and intellectual property portfolio.

    + Conduct external technology evaluations and participate in follow-up actions.

    + Provide technical leadership to support global business plans to cross-functional teams and executive leadership.

    + Present new technologies and products at scientific conferences and customer sites.

     

    The essential requirements of the job include

     

    + PhD in Molecular/Cell Biology, Genetics or related field plus 10 years of research and development experience (or Bachelors/Masters degree with 15 years of research and development experience), 5 years in a biotech setting, and 2 years managing a team

    + Technical expertise in the underlying biochemistry for NGS library preparation and target enrichment, and sequencing data analysis

    + Expert knowledge and experience with a proven record of developing NGS products from concept to launch

    + Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization

    + Deep understanding of the current and predicted future state of the NGS market, with experience engaging with customers to address market and technical needs

    + Agility to plan and generate high quality results under tight timelines

    + Ability to maintain a high standard of courtesy and cooperation within and across teams

    Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:

    + Ability to travel to other sites and conferences, expected to be < 10% of the time

    It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

    + Oncology research, genetic disease, and DNA methylation

    + Prior experience with writing patents and/or supporting patent prosecution (IP).

    The annual salary range for this role is $180,000 - $210,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.

     

    This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
