Description:
Position Purpose:
At **Saint Mary's Hospital** , the Pre-Surgical Screening RN in the **Same Day Surgery unit** plays a vital role in preparing patients for surgery. This nurse primarily conducts comprehensive preoperative assessments via phone, coordinating with anesthesia and surgical teams to ensure patients are medically optimized for surgery. This role supports patient safety, reduces surgical delays, and enhances the overall surgical experience.
What You Will Do:
+ Perform telephonic preoperative assessments, including medical history reviews, medication reconciliation, and risk screening.
+ Coordinate with anesthesia, surgeons, and primary care providers to ensure patients are cleared and optimized for surgery.
+ Educate patients on pre-surgical instructions and expectations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required:
+ Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate’s Degree or higher).
+ Active RN license in the state of Connecticut.
+ The ideal candidate will have one or more years of experience in perioperative, intraoperative, or general surgical settings.
Preferred:
+ Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
+ Ability to practice in alignment with AORN (Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses) recommended standards and guidelines.
+ BLS certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross). Certification support is available post-hire.
Position Highlights:
+ Full-Time - 40hours/week
+ Clinic hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
+ Hourly Staff RN position; pay range: $36.15 – $59.95/hour
