Position Summary
The Education Coordinator (Genomics Workforce Development) is responsible for providing direction and support for the Institute of Translational Genomic Medicine, and academic support services. Typical functions include curriculum planning, communication with students, community stakeholders, and faculty, admissions and internships, career planning and assisting with coordinating academic advising. The Education Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination, administration and execution of all aspects of education program(s) for genomics-related research. Duties include coordination of educational activities within the Institute of Translational Genomic Medicine, organizing, leading, and providing instructions for programmatic activities. In general, the core competencies of the Education Coordinator will include:
1. Curriculum Planning:
• Develop pre and post-genomics assessments and protocols for evaluation and improvement of student performance
• Maintain organizational standards of satisfaction, quality, and performance.
• Oversee multiple courses and genomics-related education programs, ensuring program goals are reached.
• Work with community engagement personnel to plan and implement age-appropriate genomics and genetics conceptual learning amongst K-12 students and their families, undergraduate students, and professional students.
• Liaise with department leaders, faculty and staff to ensure compliance and alignment with institutional, department and grant-level objectives.
• Effectively plan, organize and implement educational activities and materials to accompany all lesson plans.
2. Program Implementation:
• Participate in the development and implementation of all program milestones.
• Conduct focus groups and assessments in alignment with program activities.
• Monitor and assess student response to program strategies.
• Ensure that program activities operate within the policies and procedures of the organization.
• Assist program manager and investigators with implementation and maintenance of undergraduate internship programs.
• Assist with the planning of professional development workshops, internships, seminars and programs for genomics workforce development participants.
• Rely on independent judgement to coordinate resources and initiate actions within the established guidelines to achieve department and research program objectives.
• Develop a strategic plan for professionalizing, implementing, and sustaining the best supporting strategies for genomics education for community learners.
• Meet with stakeholders and principal investigators to make communication easy and transparent regarding project issues and decisions on education coordination services.
3. Accountability and Self-Management
• May have input into the budget planning process and/or responsibility for controlling and recommending budget expenditures within own area.
• Use fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of a specialty field (genomics/genetics) to provide administrative support or uses fundamental technical capabilities and skills to perform tasks in the assigned area.
4. Supervision:
• Manage and utilize resources in alignment with the budget, project plan, and available tools and technology.
• Identify and evaluate the risks associated with program activities and take appropriate action to control the risks.Report to the Co-PI’s of the Genomics Workforce Development Core and the Principal Investigator of the project.
5. Stakeholder Engagement:
• Serve as a liaison between the organization and its stakeholders to ensure effective communication.
• Prepare reports, analyze data, and present regular program activities to stakeholders.
• Attend all internal, working group and consortium-level standing meetings.
6. Communication:
• Uses well-developed analytical, technical, computer and/or oral and written communication skills.
• Makes recommendations/decisions that may affect activities, programs, groups, and/or departmental operations.
7. Problem Solving & Analysis:
• Generally, interacts with others to analyze information/data, provide advice, opinions, and counsel utilizing problem solving skills.
• Analyze program data and generate reports on a monthly basis, at minimum.
Minimum Qualifications
+ Doctoral Degree preferred; Master’s Degree acceptable with a minimum of 7-10 years of genomics, genetics, public health, bioinformatics, translational research, or similar work experience.Ideal candidates will be seasoned educators with at least 7 years of education management, or similar educational leadership experience.
+ 5-10 years of experience teaching graduate level courses is required.
+ The scope of responsibilities requires a genomics-focused skill set, with a preference for cancer inequities, and a deep understanding of beginner to advanced graduate and professional- level educational concepts and program management.

It is MSM’s Immunization policy that all Prospective Employees are encouraged to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID -19 prior to commencement of employment.
