Description
Are you ready to make a significant impact on security engineering at Amazon? We are looking for a collaborative Software Development Engineer to join our Vulnerability Management team, where you'll develop innovative tools that empower Security Engineers across Amazon. In this role, you'll design and build critical features that enhance our defensive security capabilities while helping to shape the future of our security infrastructure.
As part of this team, you'll work on system design, AWS configuration, feature development, and strategic technical planning. You'll collaborate with security and technical teams worldwide to create solutions that protect Amazon's vast ecosystem. This is a unique opportunity to directly contribute to Amazon's security posture while mentoring newer engineers and growing your technical expertise in a high-impact environment.
Key job responsibilities
- Design and develop significant new features that enable Security Engineers to efficiently identify, assess and remediate vulnerabilities across Amazon's systems
- Collaborate with security and technical teams worldwide to understand requirements and create effective solutions for vulnerability management
- Participate actively in code reviews, providing meaningful feedback to team members and contributing to the full software development lifecycle
- Demonstrate operational excellence in your work, ensuring that root causes of operational issues are identified and resolved with permanent fixes
- Develop and maintain the vulnerability knowledge base while automating the vulnerability workflow and process
- Earning trust in all directions; building partnerships with technical internal Amazon stakeholders WW
- System resilience testing and preparation
A day in the life
Your day will be dynamic and varied, moving between system design, feature development and strategic technical planning. You might start by helping a Security Engineer extend an application your team built, then shift to conducting a deep-dive analysis that leads you to advocate for a feature rewrite. As a member of a self-organizing team, you'll help shape processes, outcomes, and goals through interactions with senior leadership while adapting to Amazon's scale, emerging security threats, and new technologies.

Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
- Knowledge of batch and streaming data architectures like Kafka, Kinesis, Flink, Storm, Beam
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
- Experience developing, deploying and managing AI products at scale
- Scripting skills (e.g., Perl, Python shell scripting)
- Experience with distributed computing and enterprise-wide systems.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
