Description
Do you want to build internet-scale catalog and commerce systems that make the world's selection discoverable and shoppable for all customers? Do you want to work alongside passionate, talented engineers and scientists on the next generation of shopping experiences that leverage Large Language Models to revolutionize how customers discover, evaluate, and purchase products across Amazon surfaces? Our team is building the primitives that power agentic shopping experiences—from a worldwide product catalog that understands every brand and product available online (whether sold on Amazon or not), to seamless purchasing experiences that let customers complete transactions without leaving Amazon. We are looking for a passionate, talented, and inventive Software Development Engineer II to lead the development of industry-leading technology that brings together distributed catalog systems, discovery and evaluation primitives, and frictionless purchasing at internet scale.
Shopping Conversation Foundation (SCF) is building the next generation of catalog, discovery, and commerce systems that leverage generative AI and Large Language Models to create innovative shopping experiences. Our work spans from understanding products and brands at internet scale to enabling frictionless shopping experiences across Amazon. We tackle challenging problems in distributed systems, machine learning applications, and customer-facing commerce experiences.
As a software developer in this role, you will
1. Design, develop, and own distributed systems that power a worldwide product catalog at internet scale, ingesting and processing data from brands and retailers globally to make the world's selection discoverable to customers.
2. Collaborate closely with Applied Scientists to apply Large Language Models and generative AI techniques to build intelligent primitives that transform how customers discover and evaluate products.
3. Build robust, scalable systems that handle complex data flows, API integrations, and catalog synchronization across diverse commerce platforms.
4. Develop primitives and services that enable seamless purchasing experiences, allowing customers to complete transactions and manage orders without leaving Amazon while maintaining high availability, performance, and customer trust.
5. Own the full software development lifecycle for your systems, from requirements gathering and design through implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and operational excellence.
6. Drive technical innovation by experimenting with generative AI and LLMs to solve challenging problems in product catalog construction, selection discovery, and commerce experiences at scale.
7. Establish engineering best practices, write high-quality code, conduct thorough code reviews, and mentor junior engineers on distributed systems design and machine learning applications.
8. Monitor system health, troubleshoot production issues, and continuously improve system performance, reliability, and cost efficiency for services operating at Amazon scale.
9. Participate in on-call rotations to ensure operational excellence and rapid response to any customer-impacting issues.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
