Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Grants Accountant to join our team in Washington, District of Columbia. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining financial accuracy and compliance for grant-related transactions and reports. The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting skills and experience working in nonprofit or grant-based environments, ensuring all financial activities align with organizational and donor requirements.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain and update financial records related to grants, ensuring accuracy and compliance with donor requirements.

• Monitor and analyze grant expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets and financial guidelines.

• Prepare and submit timely financial reports to donors and internal program teams.

• Collaborate with program staff to develop grant budgets and assess budget performance against actual expenditures.

• Provide financial data and budget narratives to support grant proposal development.

• Assist with external audits by compiling necessary documentation and conducting detailed financial analysis.

• Reconcile grant accounts and create journal entries as required.

• Organize and manage grant files, including contracts, budget amendments, and correspondence.

• Work closely with development and program teams to streamline communication and reporting processes.

• Cross-train with the Senior Staff Accountant to gain proficiency in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other finance-related tasks. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.

• 2–4 years of accounting experience, ideally within a nonprofit or grant-focused organization.

• Solid understanding of nonprofit accounting standards and practices.

• Familiarity with grant compliance regulations and reporting requirements.

• Proficiency in preparing journal entries and reconciling accounts.

• Experience with corporate tax, sales tax, and general ledger management.

• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively across teams.
