    Description

    A local government agency in Vista is seeking a knowledgeable Accountant to support financial operations, reporting, and compliance for city departments. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional who thrives in a structured environment and enjoys applying GAAP principles to public-sector finance. The Accountant will manage financial records, oversee account reconciliations, and ensure accurate reporting while supporting budget preparation and internal controls. This role requires independence, strong technical skills, and a commitment to financial transparency.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Maintain general ledger accounts and reconcile balance sheet items

    + Prepare journal entries, accruals, and month-end closing reports

    + Monitor expenditures and ensure compliance with budgets and policies

    + Prepare financial statements and internal reports for management review

    + Support external audits and regulatory compliance initiatives

    + Collaborate with departments to resolve financial discrepancies

    + Evaluate current accounting procedures and recommend improvements

    Requirements

    + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

    + 3+ years of professional accounting experience, preferably in government or public sector

    + Strong knowledge of GAAP and public-sector accounting standards

    + Advanced Excel skills; experience with mid-level accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Munis)

    + Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills

    + Ability to work independently and exercise judgment in accounting processes

    + Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
