    Robert Half Accountemps (Houston, TX)


    Description

    Our team is seeking a driven and experienced Staff Accountant to join us on an immediate temporary basis to support our Controller through a busy audit season, with strong potential for full-time conversion. This is a hands-on, highly visible accounting role where you’ll make an immediate impact—handling a variety of duties to help our team succeed.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Perform general accounting activities including journal entries, account reconciliations, and managing day-to-day operational tasks.

    + Support month-end close by executing physical account reconciliations (typically 3 days/month) and preparing journal entries for review.

    + Address escalated issues from the AP/AR teams—no routine data entry.

    + Provide essential audit support, including pulling and organizing documentation ahead of our January 26th audit.

    + Extract, analyze, and manipulate data for reconciliations, statistics, KPIs, and job cost analysis.

    + Assist with collections activity and provide AR support as needed.

    + Contribute to reporting and analytics initiatives using advanced Excel techniques.

    Requirements

    Qualifications:

    + Proven general accounting experience; comfortable performing a wide range of tasks and adapting as needed.

    + Self-starter—able to step in to resolve escalations but not expected to serve as a high-level manager.

    + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or significant progress toward one) with a strong grasp of debits, credits, and balancing principles.

    + Advanced Excel skills required (PivotTables and VLOOKUPs at minimum).

    + Oracle and/or JD Edwards experience is a plus but not required—if you’re tech savvy, we’ll train you on industry nuances.

    + Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
