Job Title: PhlebotomistJob Description

The primary role of a phlebotomist is to support various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make recommendations to improve workflow.

Responsibilities

+ Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.

+ Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.

+ Decontaminate equipment and update patient information.

+ Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

+ Clearly explain the process of venipuncture or other specimen collection in a courteous manner.

+ Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

+ Fully understand and follow all physicians' orders.

+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

+ Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.

+ Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.

+ Place samples in the appropriate collection container or tube and follow specific procedures for transport to maintain specimen integrity.

+ Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

+ Attend annual department trainings.

+ Respond to telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.

Essential Skills

+ Proficiency in phlebotomy and blood draw techniques.

+ Ability to collect and handle specimens properly.

+ Experience in geriatrics and pediatrics.

+ Strong customer service skills.

+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

+ High School Diploma or GED.

+ 1-2 years of relevant experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Experience in a medical setting is beneficial.

+ Geriatric experience is a plus.

Work Environment

This position is based in a small practice primarily serving geriatric patients. The working hours are from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with two days requiring an earlier start of 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Annandale, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
