    Job Title: Automation TechnicianJob Description

     

    The Automation Technician is responsible for providing on-site and remote technical support to customers, including the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and repair of automated machinery. In addition to field service work, this role will involve performing hands-on tasks, including machine assembly, testing, and troubleshooting before shipment. This position requires strong technical knowledge in electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems as well as the ability to work independently and professionally with customers. Up to 20% domestic and international travel is required.

    Responsibilities

    + Install, commission, and start up automated machinery at customer facilities.

    + Perform machine building, wiring, assembly, and testing before shipment.

    + Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and programming issues.

    + Conduct system troubleshooting and calibration both in-house and at customer sites.

    + Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation.

    + Utilize PLC and HMI software for troubleshooting and adjustments.

    + Provide technical training for operators and maintenance personnel.

    + Deliver remote support to customers via phone and electronic communication.

    + Accurately document service activities, findings, and recommendations.

    Essential Skills

    + Proficiency in PLC troubleshooting, installation, and commissioning.

    + Experience in automation, electrical design, and controls engineering.

    + Skilled in the use of Autocad, schematic reading, and VFD, HMI, and servo motor systems.

    + Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.

    + Strong communication and customer interaction skills.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Associate degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, or related technical field, or equivalent work experience.

    + 3–5 years of hands-on experience with automated machinery or industrial equipment.

    + Experience with PLC and motion control systems (Servo, VFD).

    + Skilled in reading and interpreting schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.

    + Proficient with hand tools, multimeters, and precision measuring equipment.

    + Valid passport or ability to obtain one.

    + Bilingual capabilities are a plus.

    + Not suitable for recent graduates.

    Work Environment

    This role requires working both onsite in the shop on machines and in the field for commissioning. It involves between 5 and 10 trips per year, typically from Wednesday to Friday, with international travel to locations such as Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico, and Canada. Travel compensation is provided, with a $100 per day allowance for expenses.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Berlin, WI.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $48.08 - $48.08/hr.
