Job Title: Phlebotomist IIJob Description
The primary role of a Phlebotomist II is to assist with various duties including troubleshooting, training, and recommending workflow improvements. The position requires expertise in drawing blood, labeling specimens, centrifuging, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information.
Responsibilities
+ Perform blood draws and collect specimens according to established procedures.
+ Explain the process of venipuncture and specimen collection clearly and courteously.
+ Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
+ Understand and follow all physician orders.
+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.
+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
+ Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
+ Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.
+ Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
+ Attend annual department trainings.
+ Respond to telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.
Essential Skills
+ Valid Phlebotomy certification in the state of employment, if required.
+ Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a lab or hospital setting.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
+ High School Diploma or GED.
+ 2-4 years of experience in a related field.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Knowledge of different gauges and phlebotomy techniques.
+ Ability to enter data accurately in various EMR systems.
+ Excellent customer service skills for managing high patient volume.
+ Experience in specimen collection and venipuncture.
Work Environment
The position is based in Albany, NY, and operates in a fast-paced environment similar to an ER with over 100 patients daily. Work hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with every other Saturday from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM, or from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM with the same Saturday schedule.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Albany, NY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
