    Job Title: Mechanical Design EngineerJob Description

     

    Join our dynamic Steam Power Services Inquiry to Remittance (ITR) engineering team in the Americas, where you will play a pivotal role in service engineering activities. Your contributions will include outage planning and execution, providing technical guidance to field engineers and customers, leading complex repairs on-site or at shops, conducting root cause analysis on product and process issues, designing steam turbine components, and offering technical support to parts engineering and sourcing teams. Collaborate globally with rotating equipment steam turbine design engineering teams to develop safe, reliable, and quality-focused product solutions.

    Responsibilities

    + Provide technical guidance to field engineers and service managers during the outage planning and execution of industrial, fossil, and nuclear steam turbines.

    + Lead complex repairs on rotors, diaphragms, casings, valves, and more at service centers.

    + Act as the single point of contact and technical interface for complex repair projects, coordinating with repairs sales, customer service managers, project managers, sourcing, engineering, and quality teams.

    + Ensure project engineering deliverables and technical requirements are met on time.

    + Function as a Project Engineering Manager to successfully deliver steam turbine projects in execution for Own Fleet Capital Parts and complex upgrades, engineering studies, and valve solutions.

    + Implement lean methodologies to ensure robust daily management, engineering deliverables, and continuous improvement focused on Safety, Quality, Delivery & Cost.

    + Provide inspection and test plans for site assembly/disassembly and service center repair scope.

    + Lead and participate in the product qualification process for service shops, design reviews, and technical risk discussions with customers.

    + Offer technical recommendations and guidance during the outage planning phase to internal and external customers.

    + Guide parts engineering and sourcing teams on product design form, fit, and function.

    + Handle product/process non-conformances and support corrective/preventative action implementations.

    + Collaborate with sales/service directors, onsite services, repair centers, field engineers, and parts engineering groups to provide technical direction and guidance.

    + Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements.

    + Travel domestically to customer sites, approximately 5 - 10% of the time.

    Essential Skills

    + Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field from an accredited college or university.

    + Minimum of 5+ years of experience in steam turbine service.

    + Minimum of 2+ years of field execution experience, preferably within the power generation industry.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Catia CAD drafting experience is a bonus.

    + Strong oral and written communication skills.

    + Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.

    + Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.

    + Established project management skills.

    + Good understanding of steam turbine and balance of plant systems and operations.

    + Experience with steam turbine rotating and stationary components inspection methods and repairs.

    + Exposure to steam turbine disassembly, assembly, startups, and operations.

    + Being respectful, receptive, agile, and eager to learn.

    Work Environment

    Work in a heavy-duty, industrial plant environment, where collaboration and safety are paramount. The role involves domestic travel to customer sites, approximately 5 - 10% of the time.

     

    Job Type & Location

     

    This is a Contract position based out of Richmond, VA.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $48.00/hr.
