    Job Title: Sheet Metal Mechanic** **Job Description

     

    We are seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Mechanic with extensive experience in commercial and naval sheet metal work, specifically in the installation of foundations, ventilation, bulkheads, and shipboard furniture. This role involves working in a challenging yet rewarding environment, requiring a high level of skill and attention to detail.

    Responsibilities

    + Interpret complex ventilation assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches, including weld symbols, material types, datum, and reference lines.

    + Comprehend fractional and decimal dimensions using a ruler.

    + Lay off piece parts for fabrication and assembly.

    + Assemble piece parts in accordance with specifications, ensuring quality workmanship.

    + Work effectively in a physically demanding environment.

    + Adhere to OSHA regulations relevant to the shipbuilding industry.

    + Utilize small hand tools such as electric drills, grinders, and rivet guns, as well as shop equipment like drill presses and press brakes.

    Essential Skills

    + Four years of commercial/naval sheet metal experience as a first-class Sheet Metal Worker.

    + Proficiency in reading and interpreting assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches.

    + Experience with fractional and decimal dimensions.

    + Ability to assemble components according to specifications.

    + Familiarity with OSHA regulations in the shipbuilding industry.

    + Experience with small hand tools and shop equipment.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Experience working in a physically demanding environment.

    Work Environment

    This position is based in a shipyard located in Southeast Virginia, stretching over five miles. The climate is hot and muggy during the summer and cool in the winter. Work will be performed on a Navy vessel or in a shop environment. Shifts are flexible, with first, second, and third shifts available, including 7am-3:30pm, 3:30-11pm, and 11pm-7am.

    This is a Contract position based out of Newport News, VA.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $27.31/hr.
