We value the culture of diversity and professionalism in the workplace and strongly believe that our workforce should reflect our community. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FM68GFV *Purpose:*The Office of the State Treasurer’s Legal Department is seeking a law student (2L or 3L) for an internship position beginning on June 1, 2026 for a ten-week period. *About the Legal Department:*The Legal Department, under the direction of the General Counsel, acts as in-house counsel to the Treasury Executive Staff and all Treasury departments. Attorneys advise and consult with department heads and staff on a broad range of legal issues, draft legal memoranda, appear in administrative hearings, negotiate contracts, respond to public records requests, interpret statutes and regulations, develop Treasury policies, provide advice and counsel on employment and labor relations matters, and guide the process for purchasing goods and services. *Position Summary:*Interns will be exposed to a variety of legal areas, with primary focus on research and ad hoc projects. Interns will assist the legal team with researching specific questions regarding law and policy, prepare legal written work, and attend meetings alongside legal team. Interest and/or coursework in employment law, contracts, constitutional law, trusts & estates, administrative law, and laws pertaining to state employees and public bodies is strongly preferred, but not necessary. *Responsibilities:* * Research statutes, regulations, and case authority relating to a variety of issues; draft legal memoranda as required * Provide written or oral responses to legal inquiries from Treasury departments * Assist with drafting policies, regulations, and administrative law pleadings * Attend various internal and external meetings with Treasury legal staff * Assist with administrative tasks related to legal team operations * Other tasks as requested *Preferred Skills:* * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills * Strong organizational and planning skills * Excellent research skills, including adeptness with Westlaw * Ability to write clearly and persuasively * Demonstrated interest in governmental and/or public interest work * Working knowledge of MS Office Software, especially Excel and Word * Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments at once *Program Benefits:* * Legal experience working within public sector * Exposure to a wide array of legal work across various practice areas * Opportunities to participate in professional development and networking events *Application:* We are committed to advancing the experience of students in the workplace.
