About the role

As a Kong API Architect, you will make an impact by designing and implementing API management solutions using Kong. You will be a valued member of the API Management team and work collaboratively with product owners, developers, and infrastructure teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing API solutions.

In this role, you will:

• Architect and design API gateway solutions leveraging Kong to meet enterprise integration needs.

• Define and enforce API security, governance, and lifecycle management standards.

• Collaborate with development teams to implement APIs and microservices following best practices.

• Optimize Kong configurations for performance, scalability, and reliability.

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship on API management and Kong platform capabilities.

Work model: remote with travel for milestones

What you need to have to be considered

• Proven experience in architecting and implementing API management solutions using Kong.

• Strong understanding of API design principles, RESTful services, and microservices architecture.

• Expertise in Kong configuration, plugins, and integration with authentication/authorization systems.

• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).

These will help you stand out

• Kong Enterprise experience and certification.

• Knowledge of service mesh technologies and API observability tools.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for API deployments.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP for hosting API solutions.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on innovation.

Salary and Other Compensation:

The annual salary for this position is between $156,500 - $183,500 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
