Job Summary and Qualifications
Collaborates with the Vice President, Quality and Patient Safety in the development of the Infection Control and Prevention Program and Lewis Gale Medical Center. Leads and manages the defined Infection Control Program.
Responsible for the day to day activities related to the identification, surveillance, and prevention of infections/communicable diseases. Acts as the facility's lead for the Infection Control Committee.
Develops, implements and maintains a reporting system for nosocomial infections/communicable diseases.
Maintains communication with the medical staff and hospital staff regarding detection, surveillance and prevention of communicable diseases and other possible hazardous situations.
Prepares reports for administration, medical staff leaders, and Board of Trustees related to the infection Control and Prevention Program outcomes and activities.
Serves as a liaison to medical and hospital staff in the area of Infection Control. Also serves as the liaison with the Virginia Department of Health and CDC when appropriate and necessary.
Establishes and implements in-service and continuing educational programs concerning infection control and prevention procedures.
Assist all department managers in developing, implementing and updating the infection control standards for their departments.
Maintains professional development including pursuit of and maintenance of Certification in Infection Control.
Maintains/expands computer skills to enhance program analysis and documentation.
Supervises ICP staff, providing ongoing direction, guidance and support.
Utilizes PI principles to affect change.
Education & Experience:
Healthcare related and infection control experience; possess interpersonal and communication skills: Basic PC skills in a Windows operating environment - Required
Management experience - Preferred
Registered Nurse, Medical Technologist, or a bachelor's degree in a health related field - Required
Certified in Infection Control - Preferred
