To provide a combination of secretarial, computer data entry, reception and clerical duties at the direction of the Administrative Nurse Manager or Designee.
Responsibilities:
1. Transcription of Physician's Orders and computer skills. Criteria A: Transcribes Physician's Orders in an accurate and timely manner according to Norwalk Hospital's Policies and Procedures. Transcription of Physician's Orders and computer skills. Criteria B: Attends computer classes as necessary i.e., Cerner, Synquest and Eclipsys. Transcription of Physician's Orders and computer skills. Criteria C: Notifies appropriate personnel of STAT orders. Accesses lab values when requested. Transcription of Physician's Orders and computer skills. Criteria D: Calls department for facilitation of transcribed orders when appropriate.
2. Record Maintenance Criteria A: Prepares, ED records in an accurate and timely manner. Record Maintenance Criteria B: Maintain adequate supply of ED paperwork. Record Maintenance Criteria C: Processes Emerge data, charges and discharge records according to ED standards.
3. Communication Criteria A: Communicates effectively and courteously with patients, visitors, and coworkers within the scope of his/her responsibilities. Identifies unit and self when answering phone. Communication Criteria B: Uses a Windows-based computer system competently. Communication Criteria C: Assists the RN in care delivery by providing accurate and timely processing of communications. Relays information to appropriate person in a timely manner.
4. Occupational and Personal Responsibilities Criteria A: Demonstrates compliance with identified policies and procedures in carrying out ED Express Care assignments i.e., on call list, maintenance of data and knowledge of medical terminology. Occupational and Personal Responsibilities Criteria B: Demonstrates willingness to assist with and improve unit operations. Occupational and Personal Responsibilities Criteria C: Maintains neat and orderly appearance and environment. Occupational and Personal Responsibilities Criteria D: Completes all competencies and annual requirements as established. Maintains personal Educational Record.
5. Equipment and Supplies Criteria A: Monitors, orders and oversees maintenance of equipment and supplies in a proper, orderly and cost-effective manner i.e.., paperwork, food supply list, copier/fax equipment and office supplies. Equipment and Supplies Criteria B: Contacts appropriate departments as directed by Manager/designee, for needed services on ED and Express Care nursing unit.
6. Policy and Procedure Criteria A: Assists in QA studies as assigned by the Nurse Manager/designee. Policy and Procedure Criteria B: Maintains and updates telephone listings, on-call list, MD called list and trauma list. Policy and Procedure Criteria C: Participates in ED/Express Care staff meetings.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.
8. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
Education: HS GRAD/EQUIVALENT
Other Information:
Required: High School Graduate or equivalent. Previous secretarial/computer experience preferred with Windows based computer system. Hospital or other health care setting experience.
