    THE POSITION

    Are you an enthusiastic individual with a strong analytical approach and hands-on experience ready to support our mission of protecting air quality and enhancing environmental health? The Department of Environmental Protection is seeking an Air Monitoring Equipment Specialist to be a key player in our team, ensuring the precision and dependability of our air quality monitoring systems. If you have a passion for environmental science and a proven background in working with monitoring equipment, we invite you to apply and help us make a meaningful impact in the community.

    DESCRIPTION OF WORK

    In this position, you will be required to review automated 2-week precision checks of continuous analyzers, including, SO2, NO2, O3 and CO analyzers, where a known concentration of precision gas is injected into the instruments, and verify that data readings are within acceptable limits. Additionally, you will perform preventive maintenance at remote air monitoring stations every two weeks to avert significant malfunctions of the instruments. Your duties will also include troubleshooting, repairing, replacing, and recalibrating equipment as necessary, while documenting calibration activities through the Air Quality Portal. You will analyze various symptoms and parameters—such as voltages, flows, pressures, temperatures, and sounds—to implement corrective actions. The testing equipment you will utilize includes voltmeters, certified temperature probes, barometers, flow transfer standards, hand tools, schematic diagrams, and vendor data sheets, all aimed at maintaining at least 75% valid data from all air monitoring stations.

    Work Schedule and Additional Information:

    + Full-time employment

    + Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

    + Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

    + Two years of technical experience testing and repairing electronic or electrical equipment ;or

    + An associate degree in electronics, electrical engineering technology, information sciences and technology, or a closely related field ; or

    + An equivalent combination of experience and training.

    + Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

    Special Requirement:

    + This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
