This role is focused on the visual embodiment of AI-powered characters. You will define the visual direction of our AI, managing the art direction for 1P (Meta-native), 2P (Partner), and 3P (User-created) characters across our family of apps.You will sit at the convergence of art and engineering, collaborating closely with modeling (ML) researchers and product teams to translate raw intelligence into expressive, relatable, and high-fidelity visual personas.

    Required Skills:

    Product Design Director Responsibilities:

    1. Visual Strategy & Art Direction: Define the aesthetic direction and visual language for embodied AI characters, establishing quality bars for realism, stylization, and expressivity across mobile, VR/MR, and web surfaces

    2. Character System Architecture: Lead the creative development of scalable character systems (avatars, photorealistic digital humans, and stylized agents) that can function across 1P, 2P, and 3P use cases

    3. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Machine Learning (ML) researchers and Engineering teams to optimize how AI models drive visual outputs—specifically focusing on audio-to-face animation, gesture generation, and multimodal expression

    4. Pipeline & Tooling Optimization: Direct the evolution of creative tools and pipelines, ensuring that artists and external creators can leverage our AI tools to create high-quality embodied characters efficiently

    5. Prototype to Production: Drive rapid prototyping of new character behaviors and interactions, moving successful concepts from the "lab" phase into production-ready features for the Family of Apps (Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, Facebook)

    Minimum Qualifications:

    6. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with 10+ years of experience with art and creative direction

    7. Experience working independently

    8. Previous experience collaborating with product and technical teams

    9. Expertise in AI image and video generation

    10. Proficiency with technical art production (e.g. 3D modeling, video streaming, procedural art generation)

    11. Demonstrated critical thinking skills and impeccable track record of creative judgment

    12. Experience leading and collaborating on cross-functional projects to build products, respond to urgent needs, preempt issues and address concerns in collaborative and timely fashion

    13. Experience building products related to broad communities and niche topics

    14. Experience with conversational products (e.g. chatbots, digital assistants)

    15. Experience working with product teams or programs (or other equivalent fields) from roadmapping through delivery

    16. Digital Human Experience: specific experience working on "Digital Humans," virtual beings, or advanced avatar systems

    17. Product Lifecycle Experience: Experience taking a product from early roadmapping and ambiguity through to final delivery and live-service iteration

    Public Compensation:

    $250,000/year to $312,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
