    Job Summary:

    The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a passionate and dedicated General Education Teacher to join Georgia Preparatory Academy. Under the direction of the school leader, this position is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing instruction in a secure educational environment. The teacher creates a positive, engaging classroom where students are supported academically, socially, and behaviorally, helping them realize their full academic potential

    Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

    + Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:

    + Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.

    + Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning. Develops schemes of work, lesson plans and tests that are in accordance with established procedures.

    + Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.

    + Uses relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.

    + Manages student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.

    + Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.

    + Provide appropriate feedback on work.

    + Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.

    + Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.

    + Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations.

    + Prepare required reports on students and activities.

    + Participate in department, school, district and parent meetings.

    + Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.

    + Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.

    + Observe and evaluate student's performance and development. Assign and grade work, homework, tests and assignments.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field (required).

    + Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) certification in the appropriate teaching field, or eligibility to obtain certification.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + One to three years of teaching experience.

    + Experience working in an alternative or secure school setting.

    + Certification SRT- 4 or higher in Special Education General Curriculum (P-12)

    + SRT- 4 or higher (4-8) or (6-12) in Math

    + Knowledge of developing IEPs for students with disabilities

    + Strong verbal and written communication skills.

    + Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

    + Commitment to professional growth, continuous improvement, and the mission of DJJ.
