    The mission of the Idaho Industrial Commission is to fairly administer the Idaho Workers' Compensation Law.

     

    The Idaho Industrial Commission is currently recruiting a Legal Assistant to provide legal and administrative support to the Employer Compliance Manager, Paralegal, and the Deputy Attorney General assigned to the Commission in the enforcement of Idaho Workers’ Compensation law.

    The successful candidate will prepare standard legal correspondence, process filings, maintain case documentation, and perform day-to-day workflow tasks essential to litigation, as well as pre- and post-judgment enforcement activities, in support of the agency’s objectives.

    Example of Duties:

    • Reviews new cases designated for penalty assessment by the Compliance Manager to confirm legal ownership and entity type.

    • Monitors and verifies proof of workers’ compensation coverage for employers in the penalty process and contacts employers to request mitigation letters to assist the Compliance Manager in closing cases.

    • Updates the Attorney General case management system as required to accurately monitor the status of the agency’s litigation caseload.

    • Coordinates with Compliance staff on notices of workers’ compensation insurance cancellations for employers with prior violations, ensuring appropriate action is taken by the Deputy Attorney General to enforce any existing injunctions.

    • Drafts legal correspondence to employers with prior violations notifying them that their workers’ compensation insurance has been or will soon be canceled and explaining the consequences of allowing coverage to lapse.

    • Gathers information needed for litigation, collections, or injunction enforcement.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Good knowledge of legal research methods; the court system and procedures; and legal ethics

    • Experience interpreting and analyzing judicial decisions and statutes; identifying and preparing appropriate legal documents; applying facts to case law in analysis and briefs; drafting legal documents and related correspondence; using a tickler system; and tracking documents on a computerized database

    Desirable Qualifications:

    • Good knowledge of the Idaho Rules of Civil Procedure and ethics

    • One to three (1-3) years of experience performing standard administrative tasks such as preparing correspondence or reports, filing, entering data, receiving payments, and/or maintaining logs and includes the regular, proficient use of electronic management information systems and other standard business software applications.

    • Experience with e-filing in the iCourt portal

    • Exceptional administrative skills, including organization, time management and attention to detail

    • Excellent grammar and proofreading skills

    • Clear and professional communication skills
