    Your Opportunity

    Stantec is looking for a Managing Structural Bridge Engineer to become part of and lead our Upstate, New York Bridge Team. This team, located in the Albany and Rochester offices, consists of a talented and dynamic group of project managers, engineers, and designers. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a variety of project types ranging from local bridge rehabilitations and replacements to large design build projects across New York State and throughout North America. You will lead an energetic team of engineers who are passionate about working with clients and communities to realize their transportation goals and improve their quality of life.     This position requires strong technical and leadership skills to lead client, financial, and schedule management, coordinate tasks and personnel, and provide technical leadership and mentoring of staff. You will help shape and develop our talented local team and be an integral part of Stantec’s continued growth.

     

    Your Key Responsibilities

     

    - Lead a team of highly skilled individuals to successfully execute projects of varying sizes and complexity.

     

    - Assist with growing the discipline within the local office and geographic region.

     

    - Consult and network with key clients and contribute to client account planning as required.

     

    - Manage workload and resource planning for the team, maximizing productivity and ensuring team utilization is reasonable and tasks are distributed fairly amongst team members.

     

    - Coordinate with other discipline, team, and project leads to ensure resources are allocated properly and projects are staffed appropriately.

     

    - Provide internal leadership in coaching, engagement, and retention.

     

    - Participate in business development and project pursuits, leading, or contributing to preparation of work proposals to clients.

     

    - Coordinate with other structural teams within Stantec for work sharing, proposal preparation, and general support.

     

    - Provide input and recommendations on compensation for the team, including promotions.

     

    - Elevate team requests or concerns to the Business Center Practice and/or Operations Leaders (BCPL/BCOL) and Human Resources, as appropriate, for review and discussion.

     

    - Consult with other leadership to ensure alignment of corporate goals and effective use of resources and knowledge.

     

    - Lead an inspired health, safety, security, and environment (HSSE) culture.

     

    - Commit to continuous improvement in QA/QC processes and foster a culture of being cost effective and thorough.

    Project Delivery

     

    - Oversee and manage projects serving as the Project Manager, Technical Lead, and/or Task Manager for transportation infrastructure projects.

     

    - Plan, organize, and manage the production of project deliverables to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, are technically sound, and meet quality standards.

     

    - Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external clients, consultants, and public agencies.

     

    - Serve as the project’s point of contact with clients, agencies, and others to obtain and determine project requirements and approvals. Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with client expectations, on schedule, and within budget.

     

    - Conduct and/or coordinate quality control reviews for managed projects and technical independent reviews for projects of peers.

     

    - Serve as the Engineer of Record for projects as appropriate.

     

    - Manage and monitor schedules and budget performance of assigned projects.

     

    Supervise and Mentor Developing Professionals

     

    - Provide supervision for structural staff of junior and mid-level engineers in the Albany and Rochester offices including Team and Project Leads.

     

    - Provide mentorship to staff to develop skills, strengthen technical abilities, and guide career development.

     

    - Review team’s work and provide technical guidance on design approaches and challenges.

     

    - Provide guidance to team members and other Stantec staff on technically complex projects and/or challenges where you have technical expertise.

     

    Support Business Development Activities

     

    - Build positive relations with existing and prospective clients.

     

    - Develop proposal documentation including project scope, budgets, and design approach for projects of all sizes.

     

    - Coordinate scope and deliverables with internal disciplines and external subconsultants.

     

    - Help develop and coordinate proposal graphics illustrating concepts and technical approaches.

     

    Your Capabilities and Credentials

     

    - Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.

     

    - Project coordination and management experience with the ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of project document production.

     

    - Experience preparing proposal documentation including scope and fee.

     

    - Working knowledge of the permit and approval process with the following clients preferred: NYSDOT, NYSTA, local municipalities in NY, NYSDEC, and USACE.

     

    - Experience with concept development, site planning, roadway design, grading and drainage, utility design, construction staging and Maintenance and Protection of Traffic.

     

    - Working knowledge of coordination with Municipal, State, and Environmental Agencies for project permits and approvals.

     

    - Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex topics and lead a team of designers.

     

    - Creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving problems.

     

    - Experience with alternative Project Delivery Methods such as Design-Build, Progressive-Design-Build and/or other methods.

     

    - Prior experience in design and modeling software such as Bentley OpenRoads Designer.

    Education and Experience

    - Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.

     

    - Professional Engineer licensed in New York State or the ability to obtain license in New York and other states within 6 months of start date.

     

    - Minimum of 15 Years of Engineering experience.

    Pay Range:

    • Locations in MN, OH, VT, & Various CA, NY Areas-$128,600.00 - $192,900.00 Annually

    **Pay Transparency:** In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

    **Benefits Summary:** Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave.
