Salary: Competitive
The ideal candidate would have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and at least 2 years of public or industry accounting experience, and either obtained or pursuing a CPA license. Financial and/or SEC reporting, public accounting, or utility accounting experience is highly preferred.
POSITION PURPOSE:
This position is responsible for compilation and analysis of information from all TVA functional organizations to be included in external reports to the SEC, OMB, GAO, U.S. Treasury, Congress and others.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
+ As an accounting professional with a defined area of expertise, performs accounting assignments in other areas of accounting in order to continue professional growth and diversity.
+ Provides detailed analytical input, develops methodology, applies controls and analyzes results of the accounting and financial reporting cycles.
+ Exercises autonomy in consulting with and advising accounting and/or financial management regarding accounting controls. Regularly exercises professional judgment by providing the interpretation and application of accounting guidance and the impact on TVA’s results of operations and financial performance.
+ Identifies risk, assesses the implications and identifies control objectives to mitigate TVA’s exposure. Provides consultation with only minimal supervisory input with regard to defined area of accounting expertise and operates independently with option to consult supervisor or senior accounting analysts in other areas of accounting.
+ Independently develops control objectives, applies accounting theory and industry standards to complex problems for management decision making.
+ Participates on teams in all areas and often serves as team lead.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education— A Bachelor’s degree is required. Field of study in accounting or finance is preferred. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study, with related education, training & experience will be considered. An advanced degree in accounting, finance or business administration is desirable.
Experience— Two years of experience in accounting with at least two years specific work experience in the application of SEC, FASB, and other relevant standards for accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and disclosures.
Certification/License, etc— Continued professional development necessary to obtain professional accounting certifications will be expected.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities— Requires current knowledge of SEC, FASB and other relevant accounting rules, financial reporting, internal controls and disclosure. Must have working knowledge of general business, financial systems and controls, computer skills, and financial analysis techniques. Must be proficient in the use of spreadsheets, word processing, data analysis, and graphics necessary to prepare accounting justifications, presentations, and proposals. Requires good communication and teamwork skills and a progressive work history indicating an ability and desire to perform at a higher level. Candidate may be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on position / access requirements and essential job functions.
