SUNY Oneonta offers an exciting opportunity within the Division of Finance and Administration as the Director of Student Accounts. In this essential leadership role, the Director is responsible for managing the staff and overall operational functions of the Student Accounts Office. Providing leadership and direction, this position ensures high standards of regulatory compliance, data accuracy, and financial stewardship. The Student Accounts Office is the primary collection point for campus revenue and plays an important role in maintaining institutional eligibility for Federal and State student aid programs and other compliance requirements. The Director of Student Accounts will report to the Associate Vice President for Finance and Administration and Controller and supervises five staff members.
The successful candidate will join the Student Accounts Office, where our team provides guidance on tuition, fees, billing, payments, and financial aid disbursements, while also helping students understand charges from departments such as housing and dining. The office supports student financial well-being through the Making Cents Financial Literacy and Wellness Program and maintains consistent service hours with both in-person and online support to ensure accessible, student-centered service.

Duties include but are not limited to:
Billing & Payment Operations
+ Overseeing daily office operations, including customer service, billing, payments, cash/credit card handling, deposits, disbursement of financial aid, refunds, collections, and aging reports.
+ Providing leadership to staff, setting expectations and goals, providing guidance, technical assistance, training, and professional development.
+ Managing billing processes and collections of revenue.
+ Managing refund processes.
Financial Aid, Refunds & Compliance
+ Ensuring the office maintains compliance with all Federal, State, SUNY and institutional polices regarding financial aid, billing, collections, 1098-T tax forms and FERPA regulations.
+ Monitoring regulatory changes and determining the impact on students and the University.
+ Reviewing the accuracy of transactions such as student charges, aid awards, and receipts before posting.
+ Processing annual 1098-T statements to students, verifying accuracy of data, collecting missing information, and reviewing the most current IRS publications.
+ Ensuring compliance to Federal, State and SUNY laws and regulations and tax reporting requirements.
Student Account Systems & Data Review
+ Coordinating with IT to implement, evaluate, test, and utilize Banner (student information system).
+ Analyzing student account data to identify trends and plan for continual improvement.
Student Communication & Support Services
+ Developing and reviewing student communications including the Student Accounts website and intranet page.
+ Promoting understanding of billing and financial responsibilities to students.
Campus Partnerships & Shared Services
+ Leading collaborations with the Student Service Center and such offices as Accounting, Financial Aid, Registrar's, Admissions, Advising, and Housing, to provide mutually supportive services to students and the University.
+ Supporting a team-oriented, collaborative office environment within the Student Accounts Office and across the University community.
Account Management, Adjustments & Collections
+ Processing the disbursement of financial aid refunds to students, ensuring compliance standards, accuracy, and timeliness.
+ Overseeing the disbursement of Federal, State, and institutional financial aid and scholarships.
+ Managing the de-registration process for unpaid accounts while considering the timelines and student requirements for financial aid awarding.
Process Updates, Documentation & Training
+ Developing, evaluating, and updating office processes to improve efficiency while enhancing customer service.
+ Maintaining current procedure and training documentation to ensure consistency among existing and new staff.
Salary: $90,000 - $98,000 commensurate with experience. SUNY Oneonta is a Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) qualifying employer. Information on SUNY's comprehensive benefits offerings can be found at https://www.suny.edu/benefits. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's degree
+ Minimum of five years in each of the following:
+ Supervisory experience
+ Experience in Higher education administration
+ Experience in providing customer service in a high-volume setting
+ Experience utilizing a comprehensive student or financial information system
Preferred:
+ Bachelor's degree in a business-related field
+ Experience working within SUNY
+ Progressive leadership responsibilities in a customer service setting
+ Experience administering NYS Higher Education Service Corp. (HESC) programs and Federal Title IV aid programs
+ Experience working with and serving diverse populations
