    Organizational Overview:

    Since 1973, the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC) has been a leader in the movement to end sexual violence. BARCC empowers survivors of sexual violence to heal and provides education and advocacy for the social changes needed to prevent sexual violence. We rely on our dedicated, brilliant staff to do this important work, and our team is growing!

     

    The External Relations team plays a critical role in advancing BARCC’s mission by building the resources, relationships, and visibility necessary to sustain and grow our work. We are a collaborative, mission-driven team that values initiative, accountability, creativity, and shared ownership of outcomes.

    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    BARCC is seeking a highly motivated, hands-on Development Manager to play a central role in advancing the organization’s fundraising efforts. Reporting to the Senior Director of External Relations, the Development Manager is a key member of the External Relations team and is responsible for implementing and managing core fundraising activities across individual giving, events, grants support, and donor stewardship.

     

    This is a highly engaged, roll-up-your-sleeves role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and takes pride in doing what needs to be done to move the work forward. The Development Manager works across functions, supports both strategy and execution, and brings persistence, flexibility, and strong follow-through to all aspects of the job. The work directly supports BARCC’s mission of ending sexual violence through healing and social change.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

    Fundraising Implementation & Management

    • Manage and execute key components of BARCC’s annual fundraising plan in partnership with the Senior Director of External Relations.

    • Support individual giving efforts, including donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and follow-up.

    • Manage donor pipelines and processes to ensure consistent engagement and timely outreach.

    • Track fundraising progress toward annual goals and support regular reporting and analysis.

    • Maintain the development team database, SalesForce, and all other fundraising platforms, ensuring accurate and timely data entry, gift processing, and regular data maintenance, including removal of duplicate records, investigating outdated addresses, etc.

    • Create reports from Salesforce for direct mailings, emails, and donor information for the team members as needed.

    Events & Donor Engagement

    • Collaborate with the Sr. Director of External Relations in planning, coordinating, and executing BARCC’s fundraising and donor engagement events, including signature events and smaller cultivation and stewardship activities.

    • Support revenue goals through event logistics, sponsor coordination, donor communications, and follow-up.

    • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure events reflect BARCC’s values, mission, and commitment to survivor-centered, inclusive practices.

    • Assist with event evaluation and debriefs to inform future strategy and improvements.

    Operations, Systems & Collaboration

    • As the External Relations team grows, work closely with the Development & Communications Coordinator to ensure accurate donor data, gift processing, acknowledgements, and reporting.

    • Use Salesforce and other fundraising platforms to manage donor records, generate reports, and support fundraising activities.

    • Develop and refine systems, workflows, and tools that improve efficiency, accountability, and results.

    • Partner with communications staff to align fundraising messaging, donor communications, and campaign materials.

    • Serve as an internal connector, ensuring strong collaboration across External Relations, programs, and leadership.

    Leadership & Organizational Citizenship

    • Model a strong work ethic, initiative, and accountability, bringing energy and follow-through to all aspects of the role.

    • Approach work with a solutions-oriented mindset and a willingness to step in where needed.

    • Act as an ambassador of BARCC, reflecting the values of teamwork, inclusivity, collaboration, and mutual respect.

    • Participate in departmental, organization-wide, and external meetings and events as needed.

    • Perform other duties as assigned in support of organizational priorities.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    The ideal candidate is deeply committed to BARCC’s mission and brings persistence, adaptability, and a strong sense of ownership to their work.

    Required Qualifications

    • 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development operations, or related roles.

    • Demonstrated experience supporting individual giving, events, and/or grant fundraising.

    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

    • Comfort working in a hands-on role that includes both strategic thinking and day-to-day execution.

    • Experience working with donor databases and fundraising platforms (Salesforce preferred).

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    • Ability to work independently while also thriving in a highly collaborative team environment.

    • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and survivor-centered values.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in sexual violence prevention, social justice, or human services organizations.

    • Experience supervising or mentoring staff, interns or volunteers.

    • Familiarity with fundraising metrics, reporting, and evaluation.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Ability to work comfortably with donor databases, spreadsheets, and cloud-based tools.

    • Ability to attend occasional evening or weekend events.

    • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.

    Salary:
