    Description

At American Express, our culture is built on a 175-year history of innovation, shared values and Leadership Behaviors, and an unwavering commitment to back our customers, communities, and colleagues. As part of Team Amex, you'll experience this powerful backing with comprehensive support for your holistic well-being and many opportunities to learn new skills, develop as a leader, and grow your career.

Here, your voice and ideas matter, your work makes an impact, and together, you will help us define the future of American Express.

    About the role

+ The AIM (Analytics, Investment & Marketing Enablement) team – a part of GCS Marketing – is the analytical engine that enables the Global Commercial Services portfolio of American Express. Accelerating growth momentum, increasing profitability, and strengthening our value proposition are key objectives for this organization.

+ This Manager (Band 35) role will join the Prospect cross-functional team within AIM and will develop analytical solutions that enhance targeting, acquisition, engagement, and prospecting effectiveness across commercial channels. The role involves working across a diverse analytical toolkit—including advanced machine learning, predictive modeling, optimization, and Generative AI—to build solutions that improve decisioning and drive measurable business impact. The individual will act as a solution owner, accountable for problem framing, model development, deployment readiness, and ongoing performance monitoring.

+ The ideal candidate will translate business questions into well-structured analytical approaches, deliver high-quality insights, and influence strategic decision-making through clear communication and strong cross-functional alignment. Operating in a highly collaborative environment, the role ensures that analytical solutions and Generative AI solutions are designed responsibly and adhere to Amex standards for data integrity and model governance.

    Key responsibilities

+ Translate complex business questions into structured analytical and decision-intelligence frameworks, identifying the right mix of statistical techniques, machine learning, and Generative AI approaches (e.g., LLMs, RAG pipelines, embeddings/vector search, prompt automation, fine-tuning) to deliver high-impact solutions.

+ Design, build, and enhance advanced analytical models and GenAI-enabled data products—including predictive modeling, customer/prospect scoring, matching, prioritization, and enrichment capabilities—to strengthen targeting and acquisition strategies.

+ Develop scalable AI/ML and Generative AI solutions (including, but not limited to, NLP- and LLM-based workflows) that drive improvements in prospect identification, routing, personalization and engagement effectiveness across commercial channels with a focus on production deployment, standardization, cost efficiency, and reuse across multiple use cases.

+ Design and operationalize a variety of Generative AI architectures, including Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), embedding and vector-search pipelines, fine-tuning and custom model adaptation approaches, prompt-only and hybrid pipelines, tool or agent-integrated systems, and knowledge-augmented LLM solutions, selecting the appropriate architecture based on accuracy, latency, cost, scalability, and governance considerations

+ Apply strong quantitative judgment and technical rigor to evaluate data quality, refine features, enhance models, and ensure analytical methods and pipelines are robust, efficient, and aligned with best practices.

+ Influence and align cross-functional partners by collaborating with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to define Gen AI and analytical use cases, integrate analytical solutions into workflows, and enable effective adoption.

+ Establish and own experimentation, evaluation, and continuous-improvement frameworks for analytical and GenAI solutions, incorporating offline testing, controlled experimentation, human-in-the-loop feedback, performance drift monitoring, and iterative refinement aligned with business and risk objectives.

+ Own the performance narrative of analytical and GenAI solutions by defining success metrics, monitoring outcomes, interpreting model behavior, and clearly communicating trade-offs, limitations, and impact to senior stakeholders, including VP-level leaders.

+ Ensure all analytical and Gen AI solutions are designed and deployed in accordance with Responsible AI principles, including model governance, explain ability, bias assessment, data integrity, and regulatory compliance expectations.

    Qualifications

+ Bachelor's degree in quantitative discipline such as Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Finance, or Economics.

+ 5 years of experience in data science, advanced analytics, machine learning, decision science, or related quantitative roles

+ Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, with hands-on experience developing machine-learning and GenAI/NLP models end-to-end.

+ Demonstrable expertise in prompt engineering at scale, including prompt automation, versioning, systematic prompt optimization, and practical fine-tuning strategies to improve LLM reliability, consistency, and task performance.

+ Experience working with large-scale or distributed data environments, with the ability to build scalable analytical and GenAI workflows.

+ Hands-on experience with industry-standard Generative AI frameworks and tooling, including orchestration frameworks, vector databases, model hosting and inference platforms, and automated evaluation pipelines used to build, test, and operationalize LLM-based systems.

+ Strong analytical and conceptual problem-solving capability, with a demonstrated ability to translate business needs into structured analytical plans and GenAI/ML solution approaches.

+ Experience designing GenAI solutions with consideration for enterprise platform constraints, including cost efficiency, latency, scalability, and reliability.

+ Demonstrated ability to remain deeply hands-on in complex Generative AI and ML implementations, personally contributing to the development and iteration of core technical components such as pipelines, retrieval layers, prompt suites, and evaluation frameworks.

+ Excellent executive communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships and deliver clear, compelling insights to senior leaders.

+ Proven ability to operate as a senior individual contributor, driving solution design, analytical execution, and cross-functional alignment independently within a matrixed environment.

+ Understanding of responsible AI, data integrity, and model governance and Gen AI risk management principles (e.g., explain ability, bias/fairness, monitoring, audit readiness) is preferred.
