The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist collaborates with a wide range of internal partners including the EHS team, Facilities, Infection Prevention, Environmental Services, Clinical Engineering, Regulatory Compliance, nursing units, laboratories, Pharmacy, executive leadership and Accreditation. This role supports the local Environment of Care committee and is responsible for construction rounds, startup inspections, construction permit evaluations and review of safety and incident reports. The specialist conducts readiness rounds, fire safety assessments, hazardous materials oversight, indoor air quality evaluations, waste management inspections and ensures timely documentation and compliance with Joint Commission, OSHA and other regulatory requirements while investigating accidents, addressing root causes and supporting a safe, compliant care environment.
A caregiver in this role will work Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm with no holidays required. Weekends will be worked based on needs.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
+ Use qualitative and quantitative analyses of products, systems, operations and activities to identify hazards and establish programmatic plans and goals.
+ Identify events, likelihood of occurrence, severity of results and risk and cost.
+ Collaborate with others during the preparation of risk assessments and associated action plans.
+ Participate in accident and incident investigations.
+ Provide consulting services to internal customers regarding safety, health and environmental hazards, controls and regulatory standards (EPA, OSHA, DOT, NFPA ,TJC, ODH, CMS and others).
+ Develop and conduct training programs.
+ Be responsible for one or more Joint Commission Environment of Care management plans.
+ Conduct audits of facilities and operations to ensure Environment of Care requirements are met.
+ Collect, analyze and maintains EHS data.
+ Maintain appropriate records for operational processes and regulatory agencies and submit required documents by established deadlines.
+ Manage direct reports or indirect personnel resources to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
+ Manage budget and contracted services as appropriate.
+ Act as a member of the Emergency Response Team.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, hazardous materials management, environmental science, one of the physical sciences, or a related field
+ Valid State driver's license is required
+ Minimum 3 years experience in a Healthcare or safety field
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Master's Degree
+ Minimum 1 year of experience in an environmental health and safety field or applicable healthcare area if bachelor's degree is not science, engineering, or safety related
+ Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) and/or other safety certification
+ Lab and/or EHS experience
Physical Requirements:
+ Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.
+ Ability to lift and transport up to 25 pounds.
+ May require extended periods of standing, walking, or sitting.
+ Good visual acuity through normal or corrected vision.
Personal Protective Equipment:
+ Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range
Minimum Annual Salary: $69,600.00
Maximum Annual Salary: $106,132.50
The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate's actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate's work history, experience, skill set and education. The pay range displayed does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.).
