Amazon Web Services (AWS) continues to expand its global presence and customer facing services and we are looking for a highly motivated export controls specialist. As part of the AWS Global Export Compliance team, this role gets to drive enterprise-wide export compliance excellence by building policies, processes and solutions for automated compliance, enabling business growth across AWS's most complex and strategic programs including AI, Quantum, and other emerging technologies.
The successful candidate will have experience implementing export controls in a multinational company, a passion for new challenges, be creative, self-directed, thrive in a fast paced environment, and a great team player. Candidates should drive continuous process improvement, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to solve problems and develop requirements for new compliance solutions.
Key job responsibilities
- Develop a compliance program internal assessment framework that addresses both tangible and intangible requirements for global export regulations and provide recommendations for compliance improvements
- Work closely with Legal to monitor and analyze dual use and defense regulatory changes, conduct impact assessments for the assessment program, and manage updates to ensure the assessment program remains responsive to regulatory changes
- Lead cross-functional working groups on implementing the assessment program, engaging with team members to understand the risk profile and integrated compliance controls
- Develop standardized procedures for handling potential regulatory issues and government audits and drive global adoption through the business
- Design and deliver advanced training programs for compliance teams and business stakeholders
- Create metrics for management reporting
- Manage various business reports to stakeholder teams and leadership on compliance initiatives

You can make strategic decisions to quickly handle emerging issues while working towards long term solutions.
The candidate must possess strong analytical skills and be comfortable working autonomously in a highly demanding and often ambiguous environment. The position requires an individual with strong attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills, and able to prioritize effectively.

Basic Qualifications
- Experience in regulatory compliance management with government agencies
- Experience in English-language communication skills, both written and verbal
- Experience working effectively across cross-functional teams and partnering well with people at all levels within an organization
- Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Business, Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of progressive experience in export controls, trade compliance, or international regulatory affairs
- Working knowledge of export control regulations
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in International Trade, Law, or related field
- 7+ years of export control experience in technology or manufacturing industry
- Certified Export Compliance Professional (CXCP) or similar certification
- Experience with cloud computing, AI/ML, quantum computing, encryption, semiconductors, or other emerging technologies
- Knowledge of international export control regimes (e.g. Wassenaar Arrangement)
- Experience with deemed export compliance and technology control plans
- Experience with trade compliance automation tools and systems
- Experience in handling internal & external audits

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $107,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
