Job Title: Crane Operator

Job Description

As a Crane Operator, you will begin your journey by undergoing comprehensive training in learning inventory locations and shadowing a trainer. You will familiarize yourself with color codes for steel placement in the warehouse and gain hands-on experience operating the crane based on your previous experience. This role requires the ability to walk 8-10 hour shifts, covering roughly 8 miles a day in both indoor and outdoor environments. You should be comfortable with exposure to various weather conditions while operating cranes and performing general housekeeping duties.

Responsibilities

+ Train and learn inventory locations and steel placement.

+ Shadow trainers and learn crane operations based on previous experience.

+ Walk 8-10 hour shifts, approximately 8 miles daily.

+ Operate indoor and outdoor cranes and perform housekeeping duties.

+ Learn to pull beams and eventually load flatbed trailers and railcars.

+ Rig, receive inventory, and move materials using an overhead crane.

+ Fill out shipping reports and bills of lading, documenting outgoing loads.

+ Work around flatbed trucks and railcar systems, adhering to safety rules.

+ Opportunity to train as a saw or brake operator and forklift operator.

Essential Skills

+ Heavy industrial or construction experience.

+ Ability to read a tape measure, verified by test or reference.

+ Capacity to learn and retain color-based inventory systems.

+ Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, though most materials are crane-lifted.

+ Experience working around heavy equipment in construction or similar fields.

+ Capability to safely jump onto and off trailers.

+ Flexibility for training on day shifts before moving to off shifts.

+ Overhead crane experience in heavy industry or military is ideal.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Petersburg, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
