    Role Overview:

    The Driver Ability Department initiates investigations into invalidation, revocation, or restriction of driving privileges. The Driver Ability Associate utilizes agency rules, regulations, policies, and codes in making determinations. You will answer internal and external phone calls and emails as well as process assigned paperwork and all related matters.

     

    A high degree of knowledge of the BMV System Tracking and Record Support (STAR) system is helpful but not required.

     

    This role is located in the central BMV Driver Records office at the Indiana Government Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.

    Salary:

    The salary for this position starts at $15.17 per hour, but may be commensurate with education and experience.

    A Day in the Life:

    The essential functions of this role are:

    + Investigate referrals made to Driver Ability on State Form 54750.

    + Processes Vision Certificates State Form 22106.

    + Processes Bioptic Vision Certificates State Form 13226.

    + Processes Vision Screening Documentation Form 56520.

    + Processes Medical Review Form 54747.

    + Review, record and process daily submission files for Drive Evaluations and SDE Drive Test.

    + Correspondence within BMV and outside agencies, Branches and BMV Approved Rehabilitation Centers.

    + Assist in research, implementation and completion of department projects.

    + Provide customer service to internal and external customers with the utmost respect, expediency and accuracy possible.

    + Investigate inquiries from internal and external partners.

    + Updates to customer record as appropriate.

    + Works with the Indiana Driver's Licensing Medical Advisory Board.

    + Maintains all confidentiality of records following the agency's policy and Indiana Codes.

    + Provides accurate information on each and every call from internal and external customers.

    + Ability to comprehend and retain information. Adaptive to change.

    + Process escalated Calls.

    + Assists with quarterly branch visits.

    What You'll Need for Success:

    Credentials:

    + High school diploma or equivalent.

    + 1 year of clerical experience applying the below, outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role.

    + Working knowledge of general office functions and clerical procedures.

    + Active listening skills.

    + Excellent critical thinking skills.

    + Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    + Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

    + Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills.

    + Proficient computer skills required, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, case management and data base tools.

    + Ability to work with sensitive documents and information, and be privy to sensitive agency information without divulging information to internal or external parties.

    + Ability to work independently.

    + Ability to provide effective and professional customer service to internal and external parties.

    + Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

    Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

    This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
