Civil Engineer

Job Description

Work closely under project managers to produce commercial site plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D. Responsibilities include subdivision design, job site visits to ensure construction matches design, and consulting with clients. The role involves managing multiple projects simultaneously, with each project typically lasting 1-2 weeks. Interaction with clients and city/government organizations is required to gather information crucial for design. The process includes initial surveying and final permitting stages, which can take 2-3 months for small projects and 4-5 months for large project completion.

Responsibilities

+ Produce commercial site plans in AutoCAD Civil 3D.

+ Design subdivisions.

+ Visit job sites to ensure construction matches design.

+ Consult with clients and interact with city/government organizations.

+ Manage multiple projects simultaneously, each lasting 1-2 weeks.

+ Participate in the process from initial surveying to final permitting stages.

Essential Skills

+ Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or similar field.

+ Minimum 3+ years of design experience in commercial land development or site design.

+ EIT certification required; PE certification preferred.

+ Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D.

+ Strong skills in site plan design, stormwater management, drainage calculations, and detention calculations.

+ Ability to understand contours, grading plans, and land development.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Excellent communication skills with clients, colleagues, and team members.

+ Experience with stormwater management plans and civil design.

+ Opportunities for advancement to project manager within the first year.

Work Environment

The work environment includes suburban commercial site plans and residential subdivisions across IA and surrounding states. The firm consists of 40 people, including 8 PEs, 5 land surveying crews, and landscape architects. The position is open due to growth, with a focus on meeting deadlines efficiently while maintaining a laid-back and fun atmosphere. Employees enjoy regular golf outings, a ping pong table in the office, and frequent team outings. All work is office-based, but employees have the freedom to visit sites as necessary.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Urbandale, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $58.00/hr.
