Summary:
The Employee Relations (ER) and Labor Relations (LR) Associate supports the organization’s efforts to maintain a positive, productive, and legally compliant work environment. The ER/LR Associate is responsible for assisting in the administration of employee relations programs, interpreting labor contracts and employment policies and ensuring consistent and fair applications of workplace standards.
**Location:** Hybrid, Downtown Pittsburgh, PA
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Maintain and track grievances, arbitrations and documentation, including ensuring appropriate documents are available on Union informational SharePoint site
+ Responsible for tracking and gathering union requests for information (RFI’s)
+ Assist in preparing and participating in grievance meetings and arbitration cases
+ Support collective bargaining activities through data collection, contract review, and labor relations research
+ Assist in the development and implementation of ER/LR policies and procedures
+ Assist in developing and conducting ER/LR training programs for managers and employees
+ Ability to interpret and apply the labor contract, HR policies and employment laws
+ Serve as the MyTime Timekeeping System subject matter expert (SME) for the Labor Relations department.
+ Prepare monthly, quarterly, yearly, and ad hoc reports and presentations for senior management and union leadership on ER/LR initiatives, hiring actions, issues, and trends
+ Serve as back-up of the internal bid process.
+ Review, coordinate and facilitate employee accommodation requests in compliance with applicable laws and company policies.
+ Assist with the adverse action process, in partnership with TA, ER/LR, and Legal
+ Review drug testing results in accordance with policy
+ Facilitate effective communication between employees and management as appropriate
+ Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations
Additional Responsibilities:
+ Perform other job-related duties as assigned
+ Storm team duties as assigned
Education and Experience Required:
+ Bachelor’s degree in human resources management, labor and employment relations or other applicable discipline required
+ 2+ years of experience in Employee Relations and/or Labor Relations preferred; experience working in a bargaining unit preferred
+ Valid driver’s license required
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Relevant certifications such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, etc. preferred
+ Other preferred qualifications
Skills/Abilities:
+ Strong understanding of labor laws and regulations
+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
+ Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
+ Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
+ Highly organized, detail oriented, self-directed, and adaptable
Scope
Primary focus is on daily deliverables, outputs and reporting. Typically, accountable for managing one's own time and workflow. Responsible for using prescribed guidelines to analyze situations and solve problems. Work is typically of moderate complexity requiring the incumbent to draw on previous knowledge to perform role. Continues to build knowledge base and develop capabilities by partnering with more experienced staff as needed.
Decision Impact
Problems and issues faced are vague but may be recognizable based on past experience. Accountable for some direct level of reasoning and decision making in straightforward situations based on precedents.
Hybrid Work
Position follows our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.
Storm Roles
All Non-Union Employees will serve in storm roles as appropriate to their role and skillset. Please be sure to discuss storm roles with the hiring manager for this position, as duties can vary across the Company. _Examples of storm roles could include but aren't limited to duties such as: working with operations for service center support or with the communications, customer service or government affairs teams to respond to public and customer requests for information, etc._
Data Governance
Utilize data to make business decisions as appropriate for the position, support data stewardship activities and partner with IT on underlying data needs.
