    Job Title: Patient Access SpecialistJob Description

     

    As a Patient Access Specialist, you will support back office functions as a medical assistant within a medical practice. You will interact with patients both in-office and over the phone to explain the support offered and update patient medical records by taking vitals. Your role will serve as the escalation point for unresolved patient billing questions, and you will manage surgical pre-payments and collections. Additionally, you will review and interpret Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) to clarify charges and insurance codes for patients.

    Responsibilities

    + Meet with patients in-office and via phone calls to explain support and update medical records.

    + Serve as the escalation point for patient billing questions that cannot be resolved by the billing team.

    + Review and interpret Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) to clarify charges and insurance codes for patients.

    + Manage surgical pre-payments and collections, including patient outreach to explain estimated costs prior to procedures.

    + Use Excel to calculate surgery cost estimates based on insurance benefits and collect payment in advance when possible.

    + Review post-surgery insurance coverage to determine if patient refunds are required.

    + Reconcile infusion payments, ensuring posted payments align with the organization's submissions.

    + Handle a daily workload consisting of approximately 85% collections, surgery estimates, patient billing questions, and refund checks, and 15% reconciliation and infusion-related tasks.

    + Perform collections activities, including patient communication and payment support.

    + Provide clear explanations of benefits and financial responsibilities to patients.

    Essential Skills

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Knowledge of reconciliation is a plus

    Work Environment

    The role is based in the Sparta office, working a Monday through Friday day shift with start times between 7-8 AM. Once a shift is chosen, it remains consistent. You will collaborate with the front desk, patient accounts, and the accounting department. Enjoy a supportive work environment with a large network of 7 offices all located in NJ, maintaining a small group feel.     This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sparta, NJ.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
